Anyone seen this Jeremy Clarkson episode?

Vauxhall even threatened the BBC with court action for damage to their reputation and lost sales.

That's an old wives tale. Vauxhall might have moaned or threatened never to supply any of their cars again, but there would have been nothing they could have done about it in terms of court action.

What I don't get is that if these moaners get so offended by Clarkson's comments then why watch him in the first place?

Its like me saying I find something offensive but then watching it anyway just to get offended and write in. Lunacy at its best these people...!

Back when Clarkson made that comment (or the lack of) the status of Top Gear was slightly different, it wasn't family entertainment program, it was serious consumer advice show on national tv where William Woollard would talk in serious voice about price of crude oil and Chris Goffey marvel upon soft padding and switches on Lada Samara dashboard using words like "high quality feel" and "upmarket character".

I think i remember it, it was because he thought the car was designed without any passion whatsoever, that it was designed like a white good.

This made me laugh though
"In October 1998 Hyundai complained to the BBC about what they described as "bigoted and racist" comments he made at the Birmingham Motor Show, where he was reported as saying that the people working on the Hyundai stand had "eaten a dog" and that the designer of the Hyundai XG had probably eaten a spaniel for his lunch"

He can make you laugh though, which is really what top gear has become. Its just become an entertainment show rather than a real motoring program these days.

We know its just an entertainment program as we are motoring enthusiasts, dare I say even Maureen down the road who watches it while doing the ironing appreciates its just an entertainment program, but there are many many people who still value Clarksons opinions on cars as fact. And as such if he was to shoot down a Vectra, why would Mr Jones want to buy a brand new one if it meant his neighbours & colleagues sniggered at him with Clarkson quips.
Jeremy Clarkson does have an effect on new car sales.

If anyone can find the year and episode this was in I MIGHT be able to get ahold of a clip for it.

I'm am showing my age now, but I do recall this episode reasonably well.

It was not broadcast in the current format - I think Quentin Wilson was still there, along with Tiff too.

If I remember rightly, Clarkson didn't really slate the car for any faults. What he vented against was the fact that it was just incredibly boring and a made-for-company-car mobile. I recall (and I may be wrong) he commented on the incredibly 'useful' sunglasses holder, a pen holder in the centre console, and then also something else about the fuel filler cap.

He didn't say it was bad, just that it was dull and boring, and that dull and boring was incredibly bad. It was almost like he'd had enough of boring rep cars from all manufacturers, and then Vauxhall sent him another which just pushed him over the edge.

most FWD cars (perhaps not as badly) would plow straight on if you kept the throttle floored mid / the whole corner

Which is a good enough reason to dislike the car as it is a limitation in the design :)

Some cars can compensate for this with the use of some sort of traction control and an active diff.
