I only have a dx9 card so have had no reason to upgrade so far, pretty set on gettin a new card (which will support dx11)
is win 7 worth the upgrade?
I have no other reason to upgrade from XP to windows 7 other than this....

Windows 7 is far quicker, more stable than XP and has a host of interface and usability improvements.

Upgrade, XP is garbage now, it was outdated when Vista hit and it's even more so now.

windows 7 is by far the best MS OS i have ever used. Seriously its that good. (to me)

Agreed. Although you couldn't have made me upgrade from XP to Vista for any amount of money. Windows 7 on the other hand is simply the bets OS Microsoft has ever made!

Edit: Damn Efour2 :p

There are about 100 other posts on this. I know there are Windows 7 trials still on (though some I think are aimed at MSDN / technet customers).

Windows 7 is so much better than XP and well worth the upgrade even if you were keeping the DX9 card.

M.

tnx ppl....was just the improvement in gfx from dx9 to dx11 i was wonderiong about really
doubt i'll use any new/extra features win7 has but i'm intrigued now!

i used xp vista and windows 7 out of the lot i prefer xp :p i dont see anything special with windows seven and im using it as we speak. dont change just for the sake of it.plenty of support yet :)

Just remember that XP is a 32bit OS. If you've got any CPU more recent that two years old, it's almost certainly 64 bit and is being crippled by XP.

XP here too.
Partly because I am on sk.939 so finding drivers for some of my old hardware is going to be a problem. But mainly, there is not a reason I can think of where the features of a newer OS would benefit me. XP does everything i need it to. I play all the games I want at a perfectly decent frame-rate.

I actually have a 64-bit cpu and dx10.1 card too but I just don't think there would be any performance gain.

is there actual proof that W7 is faster? are there any benchmarks that compare like for like xp / w7?

I'm not suggesting W7 is slower or faster I was jsut wondering if there were any bench marks about that compare the two?

I mean if someone has XP and their machine is a bit slow W7 will not make it any faster than a simple XP reinstall?

Win7 for the win..7

It's a lot easier for day to day use (nice little productivity improvements) and a lot simpler for drivers/etc.

In regards to games, I believe that there was an article a while back that showed Win7 finally catching up to and in some cases outperforming XP.

Crippled? :D Don't be silly. Most stuff runs no quicker in Windows 7.

About the only demonstrable benefit is you can use more than 3.5GB or so of RAM, but currently that isn't an issue for most gamers because no games demand that much. MW2 uses up to about 1.5GB of RAM on my machine.

win 7 is so much better then xp .... really.

and theres more to upgrading then just dx.
better folder management, better inuilt driver support, things just work, more stable etc etc.

We use it at work sadly and people can't seem to see it's a ten year old OS that we should really switch from, if the uproar when we upgraded to Office 2007 despite 9 odd months of warning is anything to go by, it's gonna be hell, teachers don't like change!

only idiots update from xp to 7 just for dx11 rofl! just get it, you wont be disappointed.

fixed :p

I upgraded to Vista on release and then to 7 on release. I'm not saying that they were huge upgrades but I don't see any point in not doing so. The cost is nothing for the hours/years that you use each one for.

Using XP seems as though I'm at work.
