Anyone still playing bf3?

Will reinstall myself at weekend..

Wonder what this looks like on 21:9 and a 1080..

Nearly 3k hours playee and never played this game on ultra settings

What makes you prefer BF3 more than BF4?

It's an interesting discussion piece. I played BF3 for 99 hours and just loved it. The progression and unlocks felt just enough, not too much or little and the game play was great, especially Rush. Hell I put over 10 hours in the BF3 beta.
Now I only picked up BF4 last week for a fiver, because I never had a good enough rig until now. It is very likely possible that because I joined so late that I have the below feelings but:

  • I had way to much available all at once, I had scores of unlocks left, right and center right from the get go. It meant I had no sense of progression or dedicating a handful of matches to one weapon or perk and progressing it nicely. I felt like I had too much at once.

  • Related to the first point, why on earth can every class use all the weapons? This completely took away the sense of a "class" and the fun/association of weapons with their respective class member was gone.
I just felt like I had a mess of unlocks from the 100+ crates I had at lv1 and none of them applied to any one class in particular.

  • EA fragmentation: W.T.F. I bought BF4 "premium" on a £5 sale. I have yet to figure out what "premium" provided from the base game. Then on top of that there's season passes, free community maps, paid unlocks and paid Expansions. Just to play a game I had to go to the advanced filters in the server browser and de-select literally everything to find a server I could get into with my "premium" purchase....ugh.

So far I'm happy with BF1 and will likely never play BF4 again.

Wait, What?!

99 hours in BF3 is nothing, a drop in the ocean. Unless you're a competitive god, you're barely scratching the surface at 99 hours. I'm still getting better at BF4 after 1500hours, and when I go back to BF3, I find my time spent in BF4 has improved my BF3 play too.

On your other points:

1) Good equipment and guns must be available to starting rank players, having vital equipment or guns unlock after a 1000 kills with a blunt potato is not going to encourage people to play.

2) Every class cannot use every weapon. carbines, DMRs and shotguns are the only weapons available to all, while each class has an exclusive weapon:

Medic: assault rifles
Engineer: PDWs
Support: LMGs
Recon: Sniper rifles

3) Premium contains season pass it's not "on top of". It also gave server queue jumping, access to the CTE and a while load of cosmetic fluff.
DLC fragmentation is however an issue for the BF series in general.

What, what, what?
I'm comparing my play time of BF3 to BF4 and it's literally a 100 hour difference which is huge.

So how many hours of BF4 have you played then? The three things you raised as negative points about BF4 didn't ring true for me.

To return to point 1; For each class there are weapons, gadgets and squad perks that you do not get straight off the bat but must unlock, but at the same time you need to have something useful available when you start otherwise you'll not be able to do anything useful for your team. The starting weapon should always be a good all rounder otherwise you'll just get murdered by players with all the unlocks.

Point 2: This is just not the case

Point 3: As I previously stated.

If you joined the game late and bought premium, you will have a huge amount of battlepacks all of a sudden as these were given out to premium and non premium players periodically over the last 3 years. They will include attachments for guns you haven't already unlocked, unless you also bought the class unlock packs.

Personally I like BF3 and 4, they're not actually that different since BF4's gunplay and hit detection were improved.

I also like BF1, but it's quite a lot different to 3 and 4.

Only about four hours haha , but my thoughts as I said are likely due to the joining so late.

I get there's still class specific weapons, but so far I've still struggled to find identity with classes. I just keep using the MK11 DMR on everyone....
I like that in prev BFs when I feel like playing a different class, I'm forced to get chummy with a weapon I haven't been recently using.

I'm not concerned about being competitive, just decent enough balance with a focus on fun and progression; I'm happy to jump in 1+ year late with an iron sight M16.

Oh and also, the UI in terrible! But again possibly cuz I'm just so late to the BF4 party..

The classes are more defined by their abilities than their primary weapons. And I think DICE deliberately gave the option of using a range of non class specific weapons so that a soldier could be effective at killing in a wide range of scenarios

Medic: Revive, heal
Engineer: blow it up/ repair it
Support: Resupply and some other stuff bolted on
Recon: Assist team with better situational awareness and providing extra spawn points.

There is IMO a very large skill curve in both BF3 and BF4, not just in how you chose and use your weapons in different scenarios, but also how you use your class specific abilities to best assist your squad and team to win the round.

Having said all that, a lot of this is only really relevant to certain game modes like rush and conquest, but these are the core game modes that define BF.

I went back and played a little BF3 recently. Definitely think it feels better, it's hard to explain though. Just feels more solid and refined.

This one,
http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf...Only-Learn-to-Play-Fast-Respawn-Rank-Cap-SKL/

It's a noob server that I abuse admin on. It's got a 700spm cap on it though so most of OCUK will get kicked pronto. :D
Twirlywoos once joined us and wen't 3,445-1 or something, once.

What is an spm cap? I purchased BF3 when it was released and thought I'd put a lot of hours into it. A friend visited the other day and said they'd put 300 hours into Elite this year so far and I said lets check my BF3 stats to see how I compare. 205hours since release, I guess I don't play it quite as much as I thought. I still haven't even unlocked all of the weapons etc yet. I'm not the sharpest shooter but I enjoy it for a laugh in between flying / driving sims. As said I still prefer how it plays and feels over BF4 though I am basing this on BF4 Beta which basically put me off purchasing it.

I googled SPM. Mine is 448, no idea if that is OK or not but it's a lot lower than your cap of 1000!

Your all good mate, it's actually 700spm. The only 2 weapons I actually went after to unlock were the M5 K and the X bow. And don't use either that often!
Jump on and see how you get on. It's a N-America server but your ping should be ok.

I meant to write 700spm but had been reading about people with up to 1000spm?! How the hell do you get that high?! I have the x bow but like you rarely use it. I don't think I have the M5 K but I have the MP7 (can't recall if that's a default weapon). I'll give the server a try this weekend, thanks :D

Must admit I usually have server filters set to UK and Europe only so I may well be missing out on a few other decent servers.

Downloaded BC2 and BF3 yesterday. Couldn't get on with the no diagonal strafing in BC2 so just played BF3. Apart from the squads that don't PTFO it was good fun playing it again.

I stuck to TDM - MAV trolling and had a load of laughs. At one point I had atleast 2-3 people using stingers to take down the MAV :D

Nobody camps the crane in Nosehair without getting a special Visa permit from me first :p Will be back on it again in the evening.
