I bought a PS3 (orginal) from someone. any way noticed the bluray drive doesnt read any discs.

On the logic board on the back of the bluray drice there is some electric tape across some of the circuits, so maybe that is faulty or something.

What confuses me is, lets say I buy a new bluray drive and it turns out my logic board is faulty. What can I do? just buy a new logic board or wont that work? as am thinking the logic board will be married to the motherboard

Please help!

:)

Why'd you buy a broken PS3?

Google suggest that its not possible unless you send it off for repair to Sony, that seems like quite abit of effort!

People buy broken ones for cheap all the time. If it's something simple and cheap then they repair it and sell it on for a little profit, if it's more expensive to repair than it is to sell then they'll just get rid of it, either binning it or just selling it on again, they bought it on the cheap anyway so no harm done.

The logic board is married to the motherboard on the PS3, yes the logic board can be faulty, but then again so could the laser on the actual drive, it's 50/50 I've replaced a few in the past and mostly it's been the laser.

You need to find out what laser you have in the drive? KES-400AAA etc?
