This forum is going to be bad for my wallet :p

Really interested in the new sub-£800 4K HDR TVs, and I LOVE 3D. Didnt even think about Passive being easily possible.

Anyone do this here?

I read an article yesterday that indicated 3D has died. Think they said there are no manufacturers left supporting it. May have been a CES2017 article, I'll see if I can find it.

Yeah I noticed Samsung dropped support.

My thinking is that -

1: I cant afford OLED.
2: VR is still in its infancy.
3: Tons of good games support it and will continue to I'm hoping

So my choices for TV is either something like the samsung KS7000s, with no 3D, or something like the LG 4K HDRs (UH9000s? i dont know their model codes well yet) with 3D, that I can utilise right NOW, and for the future until VR becomes the norm & I can afford a decent OLED..

Thats my thinking anyway, thoughts?

Tons of good games support 3D? Not really.

It's dying a death.

I personally would rather have the KS7000 for image quality. Virtual Reality is so much better than 3D, you can't even really compare the technologies.

If you happen to own a PS4 already then PSVR isn't hideously expensive.

If you don't then yes it is.

I don't have a ps4. Got a dk2.

I thought that loads of compatible games out there? Like most of the fps games area pretty compatible right? Maybe I'm wrong.

I wish I could see a proper list of upcoming VR games, going through occulus home or steam is depressing sometimes.

I would happily pay for decent VR updates of older games, surely companies can see that as a massive money maker?

Went to local curry's to see the iq difference and no sets were on lol

I have both passive(LG) and active(sony) 3D TVs and passive 3D is the best by far, for games and films.
You could invest in TriDef 3D or get the trial when you have your TV.

3D on the sort of screen op's talking about is underwhelming.

3D on a 65" OLED is fantastic.

I am now looking at OLEDs since seeing them side-by-side in a shop. :) - how do you find the refresh rate, what do you play at? any truemotion or suchlike processing etc? 1080p@120hz?

I have the 77" G6, I'm still underwhelmed.

Did you like 3D glasses before? I have owned about 5 pairs of LCD shutterglasses since pre-2000 & have loved them all, apart from often fiddly setups. Or has VR taken away the thrill?

That's because 3D is generally a bit rubbish.

The only films I thought were decent in 3D were:

Avatar
Dredd
Life of Pi

I saw them all at the cinema, and they all held up when watched them in 3D at home again.

I must have seen 25 movies+ in 3D at the cinema. Mainly because around 2012 when the studios were really pushing 3D, there were very few 2D showings at decent times at my local cinema.

I'll watch Avatar 2/3 in 3D because Cameron knows what he's doing but I won't miss it from 4k blu-rays.

Passive 3D on my LG C6 is very impressive for what is a pretty much dead format :) i had a sony lcd with active 3D but i was not very impressed by that at the time.

I have passive on my 65 Panasonic also have active on my projector , if i'm honest i think i have watched one film on both in the last two years !

I've got a OLED65E6, which uses passive 3d, and can also confirm that 3D on that when watching the likes of Gravity and Avatar is basically mindblowing.

It's a real shame that it's essentially a dead format :( LG have already confirmed that their 2017 models will be also dropping 3D support - part of why I recently acquired my current TV; the best of a dying breed imo.

FurryLemon is obviously a man of exceptionally high standards! Either that or he forgot to order the 3D version of the blu-ray :D.
