I just got one (Gorillapod SLR) so I can stick it in my camera bag so its there for occasions when I don't have my proper tripod...

I actually don't have my 18-55IS yet (sold the 350D kit lens which was the old non-IS version and am waiting for the new(er) version to arrive) so don't know how it'd take the weight, but it couldn't hack my 55-250IS, not at an angle anyway...

with the nifty fifty its no problem at all and i'm sure it'd be fine with the 18-55IS but I have noticed how you arrange the legs make a massive difference... e.g. if you line them up they can hold a lot more...

all in all, its ok but I highly doubt its ability to do some of the crazy angles they advertise on their site ;) - but definitaly good for those moments when you don't have a tripod and can just strap it to a fence or a tree branch or whatever :)

anyone else got one?

I've got one and it does fine for my D40 with kit lens, but doesn't work as well when I use it with the 70-300. They also do an SLR Zoom, which is meant to be stronger, but also more bulky, so it's just a matter of compromise. Personally, I take mine everywhere and love it.

how long have you had it? just wondering if it can retain its strength after its been used a fair bit?

I wondered about getting one of those, but decided they were a bit flimsy.

An alternative to that is the Giottos GB 1060, which you can get for £25 from the jungle, although you would need to buy a seperate head, it's not much bigger and can hold a 400D and 300 f/4 prime.

As I probably can't link to any of the sites with it on i'll link to my review instead http://wildaboutlife.net/wp/archives/122#more-122 :)

I like mine, but there is deffo an art to getting it steady. I've taken a few photo's I couldn't have taken otherwise, so it's been a worthwhile purchase, especially as it was marked up wrong at an asda in Slough, got mine for £11.49!

Got one from asda last week, it was the slr version and was reduced to £9, thinking about going back for a couple more to use for flashes.

Got one of the SLR zoom versions, and I've learnt to trust it totally, even with a Tamron 70-300 on the end. I mainly use it for trips abroad, particularly Europe via Ryanscare etc where baggage weight is an issue. The best use for them is wrapped around a railing for long exposures etc rather than as a standard tripod, once you've bent the legs it's a pain to get 'em straight again :p

is it still £9 at asda?? might send mine back in that case and get one of them ones :D
