Anyone on it with the firewall set to rating "HIGH".. Net decided to go down for 45 minutes, done all the restarts etc. Zonealarm kept saying it's blocking websites.. Rang up Virgin Fail-o-matic Media and their phone wait time is 15+ minutes. Eventually i try changing zonealarm's firewall settings from HIGH to a setting lower and now my internet is working.. I really don't like having it on MEDIUM settings..

Just found out that the update i installed earlier apparently for windows updates the DNS . According to a friend of mine companies like zonealarm weren't told and this led to sites being blocked/not working etc.

+1 and get a router with NAT firewall.
WRT54GL and install Tomato firmware on it, it is wireless, but you can disable that
the best home user router you can get imo, ROCK solid

It's a CDF5 = WRT54G v2.0
I'm assuming the main difference between the WRT54G and the WRT54GL is the SPI firewall?
Nope, the v2 54G and the 54GL are the same router, basically. Linksys moved the 54G to VxWorks OS from v5 to save money on parts (could get away with less RAM etc). But there was so much demand for a Linux router (i.e. like the original 54G v1 to v4) they re-branded the it as a 54GL (the L stands for Linux).

if you use port forwarding at all (for torrents or remote desktop or whatever), then look at the static dhcp section on tomato
lets you say "give MAC address x this IP address", then you use the port forwarding section to foward the ports
so ALL your ip editing can be done on the router, no need to manually type them in with windows

Yes I use Zone Alarm security suite with Virgin Broadband (cable).
Both my XP machines stopped working yesterday. 2000 PC working fine.
My config (which has worked perfectly for years) is cable modem into old PC running SMOOTHWALL (perimeter firewall and router and FREE!!) into LAN Hub into which everthing else connects.
If you are going to believe those who badmouth Zonealarm you might want to look at Kasperski (or however you spell it). Zonealarm is the best software firewall for your PCs and maybe not the the best virus/spyware solution - but none of the solutions are perfect.
