Anyone using Wegovy/Ozempic/Mounjaro

Some really significant weight drops in here over relatively short periods, its opened my eyes a bit to the potential effectivenes of these new drugs

GP here... Seeing an increasing number of patients with side effects with these weight loss drugs. If you get any new symptoms, do report it/see your GP.
Also these drugs have been around a long time now. Its only now many many more people are using them that side effects are becoming known. So is it not just that the numbers of users has increased so GPS are seeing more side effects?

That's a common effect. All pharma companies expect to see some "new" side effects when they go from 1000s of clinical trials patients to millions of customers. It exposes the unusual, low-probability issues. That's why pharmacoviligance teams exist.

So can anyone go to their doctor and ask for Mounjaro or Wegovy and be likely to be approved? or do they restrict it to turbo fatties only ?

I could do with losing a stone or two but I'm not exactly fat and reckon my doctor will just tell me to eat less pies and do a bit more exercise.

Also is it still done via injection ? no magic pills ?

you need co-morbidities. my niece has lost an insane amount of weight on it (must be approaching 10 stone - she was a big girl) but she also had diabetes.
I asked for it but was told I was not fat enough and didn't have any other issues which would make me qualify. so this is my last go at doing it without drugs and if I fail this time I will have to cough up out of my own pocket.

yes there are side effects but when you are talking about the issues people have getting it on the NHS then the side effects of being morbidly obese and with say diabetes , those side effects would have to be pretty severe to outweigh the health issues of people that unfit.

but sure for those looking to shed a stone or two, there are probably better alternatives.

I have a feeling the answer will be no but would this be any good for me? Some background on me, I am 58 and was medically discharged from the RAF due to injuring my lower spine. If that wasn't bad enough my spine is now riddled with arthritis throughout. Over the past few years I have been suffering with extremely painful knees that make a grinding noise when bent. I am currently waiting for a knee replacement on my right knee while the left knee is just being monitored for now although as I am now asking more from it it's quickly catching up my right knee. The waiting list is around two years for a operation but this is likely to increase as Grampian NHS has closed the Orthopedic department at our hospital in Elgin. As a result of my knees and spine I cannot do much in the way of exercise and over the past couple of years my weight has skyrocketed from a steady 99kg to 130kg and this is not helping my knees at all. I am guessing that just having the jabs won't be any good and that you need to be physically active as well to lose weight?

Cannot give you medical advise or advise you whether these jabs would suit you or not.

However in my experience (ie, N =1), what being on these medications have shown me is the amount of calories we eat has a massive impact on weight.
I've not changed any of my food choices or activity habits and managed to lose 22kg just because I have eaten less on these meds.
