Anyone wants an AOC buddy key ?

Im still playing since launch and the game has come on leaps and bounds.

DX10 Patch should be on test servers very soon but i wouldnt be suprised if it needs a seriously powerful computer to run it so que a lot of moaning about bad coding etc.

Personally i love it, the story is excellent and the graphics are good and its a bit different to WoW which is a good thing for me. The community has matured a lot and i think its mainly due to the fact it became cool to bash this game. This meant that a lot of the kids stopped playing and left the more mature playerbase.

I play with a great bunch of people and that makes all the difference. If you can find a decent guild then your laughing but then thats the same in any game.

I could go on, but at the end of the day this game is bad. It's ridiculously bad. None of my issues have yet been fully adressed, just do yourself a favour stick to the books, masterbate over a picture of arnie dressed as conan if you need to. After that go play Kotor, then the witcher , then fallout 3, then if you still want an MMO go try WOW or Warhammer online.

I wouldn't suggest WAR if you think AOC is linear. Warhammer Online (IMO) doesn't even deserve the title of "MMORPG".

AOC is one of the best MMO's to come out for some time, my personal problems with it stem from deep rooted design flaws that are never going to change. Which is the zoning and instancing. But to bash things like combat/pvp which is leaps and bounds ahead of games such as WoW and WAR is pure idiocy.

To be honest I have decided to stay out of this argument as which MMO is better comes down to one simple thing. It's horses for courses. I am a long standing EvE player and love it but needed to take a break a few months back and went to AoC. I loved it and still love it to some extent as it is a truly stunning visual experience and the music is the most atmospheric you will hear in a game. For me I don't think it has the longevity to hold me for years and a number of my friends have already let their accounts lapse. One has gone to WAR and absolutely love it, another is waiting for Darkfall. Me? I have gone back to truly the best MMO out there, EVE. Cerebral, stunning graphically and plenty of pvp if you want it.

I have characters on Fury and Twilight. Twilight is pretty dead but Fury was quite busy when I stopped playing a few weeks ago. There are planned merges sometime soon too. Ymir's pass has been released and is absolutely stunning. Aimed at high 50s to middle 60s I think.

Pretty much the same as saying "that was one of the best looking poos I've ever done". It's still brown, smelly and you don't wanna be near it any longer than you have to.

MMO's lately have been pap, WOW, EVE & EVERQUEST 2 are the only ones worth bothering with these days.. (warhammer does have it's moments, though I feel no need to argue with you as it has met almost universal acclaim if you check out metacritic, or the forum thread)

What a ridiculously inaccurate thing to say, but I applaud your effort at humour.

AOC has a high production value as seen by the quality of the graphics that even the biggest bandwagon jumper has to admit is true. Additionally the first 20 levels are outstanding and are undeniably better than the first 20 levels in any other MMO to date.

I haven't played EQ2 since release, but at that time it was worse than AOC was on launch, infact Vanguard is far better than EQ2 it simply lacks population and has a bad rep'. EQ2 however had less hype and peoples expectations were far lower.

Dont even get me started on Warhammer, about the only new thing it brought to the MMO scene was public quests and even then they are of questionable value to MMORPGs at large. If you like being led around by the nose in a very linear and most unMMORPG like fashion then I guess WAR is the game of choice. It is in fact the anti-sandbox, even more so than AOC.

AOC.

So in summary AOC is good because:
  • It has good graphics
  • The first 20 levels are good

Is that all you can come up with after everything I've said against AOC?

Ok good graphics, yes I agree. Not much to be said, except if you judge and MMO by it's graphics well.... probable best leave you in your own little pit of self involement as you certainly have no right to make arguements about games. (Of course graphics have to be acceptable, but none of the MMO's mentioned have atrocious graphics)

The first 20 levels are good? Really? Well comparitively they are amazingly good, most mmo's have you hitting a rat for 1-2 dmg and the story is told through a series of boring text boxes. AOC has cut scenes and somthing resembling a "story". However ... being better than the competition in this respect means virtually nothing, it's "crap" as opposed to "crapper". Want to know an easy proof of this? Go play the start of the oblivion, (this is what I'm going to compare it against - a high quality single player RPG - since that's what the first 20 levels aim to do) the truth is it dosen't compare, not even slightly oblivion is in a different leauge.
Additionally is the aspect that while other MMO's are crap at the start, they improve exponentially and end game raiding in wow for example is like playing a differnt game compared to the orc starting zone! AOC actually starts of at a level, and then dosen't really improve - in fact many have said it actually gets worse ( Persoanally I disagree, I hated the start, if you want single player play a single player RPG that does this well, I bought an MMORPG because I want to play with real people).
Lastly no matter how good the start is, how long does it last in proportion to the rest of the game? Nothing, virtually meaningless..

P.S
w.r.t Everquest, as i stated earlier I couldn't care less about bugs, it's the actual fundamental gameplay I care about.

Edit:

JBod you got RINSED mate :)

Yeah, pity it all went to hell as soon as you hit level 21

I don't really understand the linearity argument with Warhammer either. The only additional thing it does that other mmo's don't is put a blob on your minimap to tell you where to go. Millions of people have questhelper in Wow do basicallythe same thing, and besides, you're not forced to be led by the nose, at least no more so than in just about any other mmo in the last 3 years. You can flit between the zones for your tier, go do RvR, scenarios, hit altdorf at 15 and do all the quests there, explore the world and find some of the hidden quests and less common scenarios. It gives every bit as much freedom as any other quest / story based mmo on the market, you just seem to have taken exception to the fact that it has an easy mode for people who can't be bothered to engage their brains. Get over it.

The actual box will be delivered in about a week maybe less so the first 5 people to ask for the keys get them, anyone asks for them after, sorry too late :p

Sent you an email yesterday (Weds) morning about 9ish so hope I wasn't too late for one. Thanks either way :)

My Vanguard account has been reactivated for free - 1 month only so I decided to try it out again. The game is actually pretty good so it is shame that more people do not play as it deserves to do better. I do not even know if I will re-subscribed at the end of the month - it all depends if I can find a decent guild.

I have a 60 day timecard for Aoc lying around, will probably activate it in a few months to see how it's fairing. Think my level 80 char is on Dagon, anyone know what server pop is like on there now? It was packed during the first 3 months but by the time I'd left it was near enough empty.

I have a lot of time for Vanguard, it's a pity it had such a rough launch, because it really is quite polished now.

I have re-rolled a new toon in LOTRO to play with my nephew. LOTRO is a great game, but the world is just too small for me.

The world is huge in Vanguard and has a truly epic feel to it. It looks gorgeous as well and there is nothing like standing on a mountain and seeing something 4.5km away and deciding what the hell I'm going to take a ride out there. It also has some unique interesting classes to play with great skills. I have rolled and a Disciple and it is without a doubt the most fun healer class I have ever played. If it had launched in its current state it would have been a success and who knows what new features improvements and content would have been added by now.

I reactivated AoC a month ago as I always give games a second chance and yet again have hardly played. This may be due to rolling a TOS which I absolutely hate. Last night I rolled a Conqueror which is much better but my subscription runs out tomorrow night and I do not think I will be renewing as there is not enough to AOC to warrant a full price MMORPG subscription fee. AOC is half a game and I suspect if everything was working as intended this would still be the case.

I feel the world is very dijointed mainly down to the instances. It feels like you are playing a single player as you hardly see anyone about. The day time, night time quest system at the start is poor as well. The first 10 levels or so you don't see anyone as you are not actually in game (just the chat system really).

The graphics are okay but nothing more than that. People are still waiting for the DX10 patch which was promised (and ironically on the game boxes) before launch. The game itself isn't anything special. The landscape is horrid because of the dijointedness the zones are pretty small and have massive impassable mountains everywhere so you have to go via specific routes rather than the freedom most other MMO's give you.

Last time I played it, well it worse than Anarchy Online on release and that was buggy. Half the quests had faults in them and the mass exodus of people leaving was untrue. I was, apparantly, on one of the busier servers but this was nigh on empty.

I won't touch it with a big stick.

I might renew AOC when the dx10 patch comes out. I played it from release and didnt even hit the level cap before all my guild (that i started the game with) had quit, so i joined them.

I would not get too excited about it as I was reading posts from players running DX10 on the test servers and the stability and performance in its current state is abysmal.
