Can you tell me what the extra 2 little dongles you get with it are for pls?

I have just received one with the IR receiver and 2 of these dongles but no instrustion manual.

They look like little IR receiver with a mini jack on the other end

Ad far as I can remember, there are i/R Blasters which send out I/R signals

they are used to control an external source box, IE freeview or sky so the media center pc can change the sky/freeview channel

fliP.

Yep - not sure how they work exactly but they are designed so you can control just about any other device with an IR reciever. (If you have the right drivers/software installed)

You can program the MS remote by pointing your Sky/TV/DVD etc remote at it and pressing the necessary buttons.

That's.... interesting!

How do you swap between say TV and MCE functions?

I realise the MS MCE keyboard can be programmed to work with your TV (have done this myself), wasn't aware that the remotes could do stuff like that too.

The most annoying thing about the MS MCE remote is that it doesn't have a TV off function :(

Yes, but you have to configure mediacentre properly - your video will have to be input via an composite/svideo connection and say it's a set top box.

the setup wizard will take you through it.

well i stuck one of the blasters on the front of the cable box where the infra red receiver is and nothing happens when i use the MCE remote.

Am i doing this right, I've got the mini jack plugged into port number 1 on the USB receiver?

Anyone help?

You can only program TV power and volume as far as i know.

My MS remote has a Tv Off function (the TV button at the top left ;))

Well, volume wouldn't be an issue as I've got a seperate sound system and don't use the tv for that...

Ah it seems my remote isn't an MS one. It's the Hauppauge Media Centre remote...

Might look at getting the official one, or a Logitech Harmony perhaps :)

Thanks for that, I'd always presumed I had the MS remote :o
