Just got an x-Fi ( again )

Im the 3rd person to try the same card with the same problems -

1 - not recognised on bootup.
2 - sound dropping out during use
3 - BSOD during startup or driver install

They were in XP

Plus in vista

BSOD at the found new hardware stage

Now ive been reading creatives forums and apparently theres a problem with x-Fi cards and 8800 series GFX cards.

I have had an X-Fi in this machine before but my GFX at the time was a 7900GTO instead of the 8800GTS i have now

So is anyone else here using an x-Fi having problems with an 8800 card or soes it sound like the x-fi is fried?

Yes, I have a 8800Ultra and a X-FI Fatalt1y on a Asus Crosshair, just make sure the PCI soundcard is as far away as possible from GPU (rule of thumb always).

Check your shared components in mobo manual and IRQ's in Windows.

Had my xfi elite pro since it came out and it hasn't skipped a beat, I've used nf4, 8800 sli etc.

Yet to suffer any real problems. I would advise to keep the card cool though, i ended up with a short but strange IRQ error in this P35 when my old 8800gtx was blasting it with heat.

Keep it as far away from the gpu and/or any other cards and it seems to work.

Make sure the slots and the card are clean as well, not much else to do but to cross your fingers and hope it works :(

8800GTX and X-Fi here on 64-bit Vista and except for the really poor recent driver by Creative (I'd get static instead of sound after bootup, until I removed then reinstalled the device) I've had no problems at all. I read somewhere that it was something to do with memory, that the 8800 and the X-Fi memory are tripping over each other - might be wrong, but I remember something like that.

i have an 8800gtx and an x-fi gamer. they work fine in xp. even plays fine with my onboard sound as well in vista

Is yours the fatality gamer or the smaller pcb xtreme gamer?

Argh! Who mentioned IRQ's?
Please don't throw in complications where none are needed.
IRQ's have not been a worry since the days of Windows 98 and they certainly aren't now that we all (should) be running proper 32bit or 64bit OS's.

I have a 8800GTS, X-Fi Extreme Gamer Fatality and all is working fine.
However that is NOT with the latest driver release.
The latest driver release caused me nothing but hassle with the most annoying one being the static noise once Vista64 was booted.

Now that I'm back running the last but one driver everything is absolutely sweet and everything is working just fine.

x-fi extreme music and evga 8800gts here,

ok in xp and vista

did have problems at first but changing my pci latency to 64 in the bios and putting the x-fi in the bottom pci slot solved them all.

xfi xtreme music with 8800gts, no probs apart from a cracking sound in bf2 when set on game mode and BF2's (use creative x-fi) mode. otherb than that, tip top

i have 8800 gtx and fatality pro, no problems in vista or xp. One thing though, if you decide to use the web drivers from the creative site DO NOT USE THE LASTEST ONES i had all sorts of problems with those, i went to the version just before those and now it runs fine on either OS.

After I upgraded from a 7800GT to a 8800GTX a few weeks ago I did a clean install of XP.
I was getting a BSOD when I tried to install the X-Fi Xtreme Music drivers (ones from their site, and also older ones that had previously worked fine in my old pc).

I'm currently using the drivers on the installation cd that came with the card. They are 2 years old, but installed fine.

My mobo is a Gigabyte 965P-DS3P v3.3

Had issues with a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer and a 8800 Ultra on a P5K, installed fine, but would just output static.

After a couple of reseats and driver re-installs it's working fine.
