Hello all

I have been given two quotes to replace my old boiler with a combi.

The first quote is £3141, which includes boiler, four new radiators + valves. The boiler is a 24kw Baxi duotec.

The second quote is £2960 which includes boiler, four new radiators + valves.
This boiler is a worcester greenstar 30i.

I know nothing about boilers and the like, all i know is 24kw seems to small for 7 radiators, two sinks and a bath/shower.

Thoughts?

Well the first, and higher quote, is a rip off. The boiler there is a circa £650 unit. The worcester is circa £1k. It comes with a 5 year warranty.

There are boilers out there with 7-10 year warranties (dependent on yearly servicing).

So your second quote is £2k for 4 new radiators and valves (presume power flush?) and his labour and any little extras. Dependent on size radiators are cheap as chips - think £50-100 each so £2-400 for the rads at a max, the valves are a few quid - say £100 max.

It doesn't sound too bad to me. Where are you located? The last boiler I had installed was about £1500 (10 year warranty) but nothing on top of that - was simple replacement...

Thanks for your input

Both quotes include modifications to gas inlet from 15mm to 22mm, removal of cold and hot water tanks, building mods to suit new filter and power flush.

i am based in cheshire.

Because I asked them to ^^

My hot water tank is to small for two people to have a shower.

the diverter valve, pump and shower pump is on the blink. the hot water cylinder is terminal as it is clogged and cant be fixed.

there are only two of us

Fair enough, a lot of installers don't explain the pros and cons of combi boilers and think there suitable for all.

The latest Ideal boilers are getting great feedback, especially the Vogue, the Logic + is a great all rounder though.
Vogue gets 10 year warranty and the Logic+ 7 years.

I'm going to be having one fitted next summer and the Vogue ticks all the boxes. Best of all the Logic+ and Vogue both support Opentherm which is something i want for an ultra efficient system.

The 24kw is your hot water and it all depends on your hot water needs if this will be adequate did either plumber measure your cold water flow rate?

I paid ~£3.5k for a Worcester bosch 42CDi (~£1.5k boiler) with all the work needed to move from a 15mm gas feed to 22m, removal of old hot water and cold water tanks thermostatic values on 12. So work wise the cost for labour was in the £1.8k region after parts and boiler cost.
