I've just been offered a job in their 'food department' :D

No idea what exactly it will be doing, but they want me in at the end of the week to begin training. I've never even been inside a M&S store other than to attend the interview a couple of weeks ago. :o

I imagine that it will be the same kind of work that goes on at Sainsburys, Tescos and any other food store.

Good luck and have fun. :)

My advise as an ex-employee of M&S DON'T WORK IN FOODS it's the most boriung job they can give you ask to work in either the warehouse or Menswear they're the best jobs as you can **** about all day

Slow roasted fillet of Derbyshire beef...
Luxury cornish apple pie..
Not just shelf stacking
M&S Shelf stacking

I originally applied for storesperson, but she rang up and said those vacancies had gone and would I be interested in working in the food department.

Only thing I'm a bit concerned about is she said they were 'trying something new', so I'm half expecting to be dressed in a penguin outfit handing out samples of fish fingers (or something equally humiliating). :(

Why was it boring?

always worth a try mate, it could turn out to be boring, but if you're unemployed, give it a shot

Dude If they put you on tills and it's a slow day the hours seem like weeks(no Joke) and if they put you on the shop floor they either have you doing the Customer service counter which involves having people complain at you for hours on end or you'll be stacking shelves and clearing & cleaning out shelves that have (well for lack of a better description) WMD's stuck to them it's not pretty

Well all I know at this point in time is;

-food department
-shop floor
-something new

I'm off to Japan in July for a month, so right now I need the money a lot more than I care about doing a boring job for a couple of months. And besides, the money is actually pretty decent and there's time and a half every sunday.

But if I'm right about the penguin suit I'll be walking out on the first day.

I think its fair to say that being stuck on till is one of the worst, most dull experiences that can possibly happen to anyone.

I don't know how those in Sainsburies cope.

you've got a good aim (Japan), do the job, fill those long boring days with thoughts of those japanese girls, it'll fly by

I worked in the food department for the past 2 summers and xmas' to fund uni. It's not 'too' bad, but all new people are lobbed on tills for about 6 weeks, and they often get really really picky if your shelf stacking is not great. I really don't want to to go back this summer as I think i've done enough, but if you have an aim to work for and your not there too long it will be ok.

My brother works in fresh produce. Apparently it's "like working in hell, except worse". Enjoy your new job!!!

Did they make you do training? I have to do two days of training before the job starts.

She mentioned video's. I think they're going to attempt to brainwash me. :(

They made my brother do 2 days of training. The store has a "fake shop" upstairs for till training etc. so you can elarn before you get onto the shop floor.

Those will be the "elth & Safty" videos and the "store security" vids thy're a right laugh especially the security one you get to see a whole family walking round M&S not only stealing stuff but the shelves and racks that are holding them and then just walking out 'tis a right laugh
