If so, what is your job role exactly? Are you a train driver or a ticket office attendee?

And lastly, how do you sleep at night?

I've got 7 exams coming up in June. And you ****tards want to go on strike because two guys got the sack. And said strike is right in the middle of my exam period and many others.

Not to mention the disruption it is going to cause to the rest of London! These planned strikes are meant to be scheduled for two weeks!

The two guys in question, just to let those who don't know, are believed by the transport unions to have been sacked because they are union activists and so they're claiming unfair dismissal. From what I can tell the transport unions are getting their backs up for two main reason in relations to conventional strikes which may have led to the 'sacking' of these two men. They are 1) The demand for increased pay, 2) The loss of ticket office jobs.

Now I can understand the general disappointment at the loss of jobs. Nobody likes to live in fear of loss of jobs and nobody likes to see their colleagues cut loose either. But the pay?! Train drivers alone earn £45k a year! That's about £850 a week for sitting on their backsides pushing a lever and telling people to mind the doors. Perhaps if everyone wasn't paid so bloody damn much TFL would be more inclined to keep more people in their jobs.

Oh and another thing, my oyster card costs too much to justify all the delays. So signal men, sort your act you incompetent *****'s.

Live at home with my parents whilst doing my GDL which is in central London where I wouldn't be able to afford to live.

Why do many people who work in london for a living live so far outside London? Answer: Money.

True - although I don't understand people commuting from Cambridge for that reason as it's just as expensive!

Yeah, cambridge is a fair bit further out though. Do they have a high speed rail link between Cambridge and London? I know they have one from London to Canterbury and that takes about half hour - 45 mins which isn't too bad.

Maybe all the Cambridge people live out there because its just a nicer place. Whereas for Canterbury those comuters probably live there because its cheaper and nicer.

Not that I know of - I think the quicker trains are to KGX and take about 45-50 minutes. Would be useful to have one though as Cambridge is pretty badly located for trains - you need to get into either London or Peterborough to get anywhere!

I imagine the nicer place would play a part but the train station is not that central in Cambridge - you see lots of commuters cycling to the train station in a suit with their briefcases :D

I'm going to the theatre in London in a couple of weeks when the strike is on, really annoying actually as pretty much the first time I've ever booked a hotel that isn't easy walking distance from the theatre, figuring "we'll just get the tube" as the route is quite easy.

Had a look and tfl website suggests we should take 2 buses instead, bit concerned about that as I NEVER take buses in London as I don't live there and could easily get off at the wrong stop (not ideal at 11pm at night, plus having to wait around for a connection etc). Tube is fantastic because you literally can't go wrong, you look at the map to work out the route, get on the relevant train(s), then get off when you arrive at the named stop.

We'll probably try and get a taxi back to the hotel but I suspect the strike means everyone else will be doing the same thing.

As someone who has worked on the Underground and lived in London.....

Deal with it, everyone else does :p

Everytime someone posts a driver salary it seems to go up and up. I don't know the exact figure but it is around £40k. They also work 4 hour shifts non-stop in general and it's a lot more than just pushing a lever when driving (the non-ATO stock).

You know what, have some more rolleyes for not having a clue what you are talking about, as it would be a waste of time explaining it to a ranting child :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I look forward to an automated robotic police force at some point in the coming decades.

Save a fortune and probably catch more crims ;)

An Army of Robocops. If that happened, criminals would build an army of ED209s.

Therefore, a cut in policing will lead to robot wars on the streets of our towns and cities.

:p

I look forward to full automation of said trains. It'll save a fortune.

There are automatic trains on the system which have been there since the 90's (Central and Victoria lines). Jubilee line is the new one and has plenty of teething problems.

Eliminating the driver or making them into an attendent like the DLR won't happen any time soon so don't get your hopes up.

Awesome in a way :D

You're right. I'm sure all of the chaos, loss of earnings and pain that members of the RMT cause business and individuals in London is worth it just to have this heroes, these living idols bless us with their god-like skills, devotion to their customers and utter self sacrifice...

In case you couldn't tell, that's sarcasm and in the case of the RMT I think London should grant the senile and incontinent Lady Thatcher dictator powers just so she can ***-**** Bob Crow and the RMT out of existence. The sooner him and his ****-tard followers are dead and gone the better it will be for London as a whole. No I don't like them.
