I'm contemplating asking the boss if I can work from home for maybe 1 day a week to start with. I do the company www and manage a busy company portal community, I can speak to work collegues via messenger and i can always pop into the office for meetings with 1hr notice.

Obviously there is a degree of trust involved but I am willling to "check in" and my boss portays himself as flexible.

I work for a new company who I portray as open to new concepts . I even helped a graduate proposal for working at home...how the idea went down with the board I dont know!

Any advice?

Do you have a separate room you can use as an 'office'? Are you committed to working the hours as if you were in the office? Working from home doesn't work very well if you have children running around, the TV on, or other distractions. Believe me, it's incredibly easy to get into the bad habit of doing non-work stuff while 'working' from home. I know this from bitter experience. :(

Part of the graduate video I "advised with" delt with these issues. I have proper desk, posture and the wee one and wife woulldn't be here while I work.

Are you sure you like the idea? It could get very boring being in one main enviroment if you go full time at home

I wouldn't like to got full time at home as I feel that human interaction is invaluable....in a work context I mean.:o

When I'm not working abroad I'll work from home most of the time. Personally speaking I'm a lot more productive at home because I can get on with my work without having people pop into the office every 30 seconds.

The room I work in at home is the same room that has all my own PC stuff in, plus a TV, hifi and so on, but that sort of thing isn't a distraction for me - I work best when I have music playing, infact I despise working in silence. The biggest distraction for me is people and it doesn't help that I'm one of the few people that actually has an office - 95% of people work in an open plan area.

As far as working hours go, I'm always at the PC before 9am and more often than not I work late - the same as I would if I were in the office.

Working from home doesn't work for everyone, gone of my guys told me that he wasn't nearly as productive at home as he was in the office so he works there when he isn't travelling.

Until you try it, you won't know how it'll actually work for you. I thought that I would get distracted by being able to go to the kitchen for snacks and so on, but I don't.
