I've had high hopes for this one, what with it being a successor of sorts to the incredible system shock 2, but having watched various videos of it, I'm not sure I'm looking forward to this as much as I was.
The gfx look great, no problems here. I'm liking the underwater settings with the special effects in water rendering, and the art deco look, etc.
I'm worried about the gameplay though. Sounds strange but it seems like there's too much action. Part of what made ss2 so great was the fact that you were essentially all alone in a massive environment that was once inhabited by hundreds of people - and other than the occasional fight with a mutant or other creature - most of the player's time could be spent exploring the ship, finding upgrade points, listening to audio logs, looking out for cameras, working out what skills to upgrade, find stuff in crates, etc.
It was these quiet points that made the game so tense. You know when you hear a creature noise that, within seconds a mutant will be running through a door at you with a wrench, or a protocol droid will coming towards you down a corridor. It's all about atmosphere.
The bioshock vids I've seen all seem to be non-stop fighting. I appreciate they might want to focus on the action elements to make more interesting videos, but I'm genuinely worried that the game looks a little over-saturated in terms of stuff going on.
