Other than a w800i that is?

My 750i is starting to show it's age, the joystick sometimes won't respond, the radio cuts out because the contacts on the pcb are corroding, etc.

It's a cracking phone, the light and camera are brilliant, both as a torch and a "remote viewing" system when i need to check under floorboards or down the back of an engine.

I've not looked in depth at replacement phones until the wife mentioned she's get me a new one for my b'day, and after my exhaustive search (about 5 minutes) the best thing that meets my needs is the k750i in a different case (a w800i then!)

Can get one brand new for around £60 delivered from hong kong, so that's "roughly" the budget i'm working with.

Anything similar in spec and dimensions with shinier toys around? (torch is essential though)

Had looked at one of them, but the spec says the light is a xenon flash not the LED type that i need.

*starting* to show it's age? It's a pretty old phone!

I take it you're a fan of Sony Ericssons?
My previous 5 phones have been SE.. K700, K600, Z520, K800, K850 and now Aino. I thought the K800 and K850 were pretty good.
Don't you want something a bit newer though? Elm (J10i) for example.. Not a great looking phone but has better specs than the K750 :p

Had a quick nose, nice spec with an LED flash too. New ones are going for more than a ton though. I don't use my phone that much to justify a big spend, but the J10i is now on the list ;)

Dont get the K850i. I had one, pile of.. youknowwhat. Plus they use those "touch buttons" that wear out after 2 months.

K850i I guess. Had one for a year and it was excellent. Seems they are either bulletproof (like mine) or break dozens of times over...

Mine went through so much sweat and water but still worked until I got a new phone at the end of the contract. The touch buttons started to play up a bit at the end (not nexpected considering the amount of water it ingressed) but I repaired them recently by just taking the case off and cleaning the contacts slightly...

However having said that there are plenty of SE phones out at the moment that are essentially the more modern versions of the K750/K800/K850 however some can be a bit dodgy software wise.

id be looking straight in the direction of an SE c902 on ebay, its basically a simmer slicker version of what you got

Yeah the k s was the best se, they have gone down hill imo

I had the k750 than got the k800 for like £90 new awsome phones back than and still are today

Don't go for the w/k 8x0 series - everyone I know who has gone from a k750i (owned one myself very solid phone) to one of those has been dissapointed, same with the c series really too.

how can anyone be disappointed with the k800/k810 ? best phones ever ! camera still holds its own now

only didnt recommened em because they have xenon and OP wants LED

I was gonna make a footnote but I couldn't remember which model it was - one of the 800 series is basically the "full fat" k750i and like the 750 an excellent phone, the other w and k models in the 800 and 900 series are a different design and in comparision quite rubbish.

I had a K750i and is was great apart from the joystick broke twice like yours. Luckily MPRC used to be down the road (a few doors from where OcUK is now actually) and they used to fix phones for free in an hour while you waited:D
The w810i was my favourite even though there wasn't that much difference from the k750i. As for the k850i, I remember that as the phone that everyone hated? Even SE lovers. I had the c902 as well. That was a good phone but not without faults. Firstly, the screen is quite small, it has a thick black border/bezel. It's not as big as the casing suggests. The camera was meant to be good at the time but mine never was. the flash was out of sync to the lens and at times, seemed to have a negative affect on exposure rather then positive. There are no gaps between the keys so they don't feel raised and lastly, it had one small speaker hole meaning you could accidently silence the ringtone with a lightly placed finger or household object.:o

The best 'just a phone' phone I had was the w810i so much so, I had 2 of them

Really?

We believe the Sony Ericsson K850 lives up to the responsibility of being a landmark product in the company portfolio. With rich camera settings, the K850 comes incredibly close to stand-alone digital cameras. The novelties in navigation suggest the K850 will not resort to simply being an upgrade to older Cyber-shot handsets and will be aiming beyond the brand-loyal consumers. However, the first 5 megapixel Cyber-shot will be forced to handle a lot of pressure. It's been a year since Nokia N95 was introduced, which indisputably outruns K850 in non-cam features. Other tempting 5 megapixel mobiles as LG KU990, Samsung G600, Samsung F700, and Nokia N95 8GB will soon be crowding the cameraphone market. With an expected price tag of about 430 Euro, some users will think twice before buying a K850 at its very release. If the mentioned rival phones get launched at the same time, the domination of Sony Ericsson K850 will be put to a serious test.

Like the K750 and K800 it was widely regarded as one of the best phones of its time.

Having said that best bet would be to go for a newer SE based on the original K**0 phones.

reviews of the k850 might be good but they all fell apart or stopped working! usually the 'touch' buttons or backlights. camera was spot on. a lot of there phones from that time had similar problems. was more the W series IIRC

I went from a K750i, to a W810i. I prefered the W810i. Same phone just better buttons, control, and better Sound Quality for music.

I've since tried a C902, W995 and C510 and wasn't impressed with the camera's or buttons/controls or the Sound tbh. I haven't tried a Elm, yet, but thats what I'd go for next.

I went for a Nokia, E71, and while it has good points, good battery, organiser, everything you like about the K750i, is missing from the E71. I'm thinking of ditching it to get an Elm.

I loved my K750i but when my upgrade was due, I decided it would be boring to go for the w810i (even though that's what I wanted) so I ended up getting the Nokia 6280. I didn't like it and ended up selling it after a few weeks to fund a new w810i from o2. I think it was £150 which was actually quite cheap at the time. When I was due my next upgrade I made the same mistake again. I ended up having a Nokia n73. I hated it for lots of reasons. I noticed the o2 site were selling white w810i for £59.99. Then not long after they reduced them to £39.99 and they lasted about 2 days. I ordered one and sold the n73. In total, I must have used a w810i for well over 2 years. Loved it :)

Had the K800i for a while after my K750i and it never quite convinced me it was better..

Jumped to an iPhone 3GS after those.

The C510 I got, had the new SW UI and it was really slow compared to the W810i. I considered finding an old W810i to go back to. The ELM though is meant to have a decent camera and video mode.
