Anything better than Peer Guardian?

I just use the hardware firewall on router and software firewall on PC. To be honest I tried PG2 for a while but so much stuff came up, it just made me feel like I was being paranoid, so I stopped using it. I really don't think its worth running imo.

No point using software like this unless you live in a country that actively pursues P2P users, such as the USA.

Well there have been like 2 cases of people getting fined. :p

Btw whatever you do make sure you uncheck "log allowed connections" otherwise you will find a 5gb text file on your c drive after a few weeks of using p2p.

If you enable Protocol encryption (or something similar depending on torrent program), your data will be encrypted anyway.
Surely this is irrelevant. I imagine they set up some torrent software and try and download an illegal file and take a look at the IPs they are downloading from, of these investigate the highest bandwidth connections.
Even if the protocol is encrypted surely the torrent program makes a direct connection with the pc so the IP can still be found. You would need a third party sat in the middle to hide your IP for you.

agreed, if the tracker hosting site was got to all the traffic using that particular torrent could be shown

This is why I am unsure how they determine this as evidence though. A few digits separated by points written on a bit of toilet paper. Not really evidence? What do they do from here apart from the warning message they send to the ISP who is meant to forward it... :)

Private trackers. They will automatically block all the IP's listed in PG2.

I do this in both eMule and µTorrent.

I am behind a Linksys router, with Sygate firewall and NOD32, and PeerGuardian 2 loaded. So I hope I'm pretty safe. :p:D

You preparing for WW3 mate. :p
Believe it or not, I see Sygate as my weak point, because it is no longer being updated. :o

Let's hope NOD32's new firewall is something to write home about.

You could try protowall mate its like peerguardian i use it as i couldnt get on with peerguardian i guess its down to personal choice.

Does PG2 actually protect you then?

I was led to believe that the answer was not as the info that's gathered it what IP addresses are downloading and to do this they can simply connect to the tracker.

PG2 will stop a known IP address or range of addresses from connecting to your PC but the evidence that you were downloading based upon your IP address will still be there.

Let me put it another way - nobody has knocked at my door or sent me a letter about my file sharing activities, out of nearly 7 years. :D

Neither has this happened to me and I don't use anything like PeerGuardian or a firewall.

Let me put it another way too...no one has knocked on my door in over a decade of filesharing without using any programs like this
