Anything coming to replace 8700k?

I'd buy however the IHS needs to be soldered, it's one of the reasons why AMD looks more attractive, deliding isn't something I'll be doing on a £300 new product voiding warranty.
 
well thats good, but also want to point out they have deliberately picked three games that are very well optimised for heavy core cpus. Ryzen has more cores so it wins.

I think I mentioned in another thread reviewers really need to start testing poorly optimised games more as these very well optimised games are actually only a very small portion of the total PC games library and paint a bit of a false picture for PC gaming.

So the better CPU depends on the games you play, games like doom and tomb raider which are optimised for "more cores" will play best on a ryzen R7, games like lightning returns and the tales series games, which are 1 or 2 core only will play better on an intel chip.

To be honest, agreed that's a bit... slanted. Only wanting reviews from games with old engines that dump everything on one core is obviously going to skew things quite a lot the other way too. Considering my 2600k has done me 7 years, I'd think we'll see more engines that are better with multi-core as time goes on so the SLIGHT slant towards multi-core supporting engines will be where things go over time.
AMD tend to produce a product that's... not so amazing at the time of release but is quite forward looking.

Part of me thinks it will indeed be soldered (or at least have a much better solution than current Intel chips) and they'll charge a huge premium for this anniversary product. Another part of me thinks they'll just sell it with a delid kit and charge a huge premium for this anniversary product. Another part of me thinks they'll just charge a huge premium for this anniversary product and leave users to battle the heat by themselves and people will still lap it up. :p
 
I think if it does indeed exist it will be high binned parts and still using crap TIM, might be an cheaper/easier way to 5.2 Ghz with a de-lid. There's supposed to be a refresh of Skylake X this year also with soldered parts, might be interesting as de-lidding on a £300 cpu is not so bad but on £1k plus is really bad imo.
 
Indeed it does as does Revit for the most part. The other software like Lumion rendering really only utilises 1 thread as well and that is very heavy when on large models but the software is excellent in terms of end result to time to complete. So indeed software this end is client based and often single threaded. We have brought some business workstation systems that are overclocked accordingly for the more taxing software but they are very expensive.

It may be but since it is still the most used 2D package in the industry and that we have licences for all our staff as we have a package licence with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, 3DS Max, Robot and similar then it is bundled in so why pay another fee for Archicad.

We also have Allplan on way though as a trial but that also is mostly single core or at least nothing more than 4 core optimised too.

Also Archicad is not completely multicore, there is still huge amounts that are bound by single core because of the way the software works in serialised detailing. There would not be any notable uplift between going i7 to Threadripper for instance because too much depends on a single core to be utilised. Archicad even state this and are aware.
