Hi,

Currently runining a e2180, purchased a q9450 from the MM. About to install the new CPU just wondering if theres anything i should do after the physical installation is complete? I'm not upgrading anything else. Still same mobo, socket type etc so do i need to reformat or aything or should it just auto-detect and be fine?

Also if theres any paste left on my old cpu (2180) what would i use to clean that off as i will be selling it on.

Thanks in advance.

Make sure your mobo supports the new cpu.

Check if there's any updates for the mobo bios that helps.

That's about it.

How would i be aware if i need to update BIOS for q9450 specifically?

I have Abit IP35-e mobo which manual says supports all core2 and core quad CPUs. My bios is rev 11 i believe.

downloaded the bios do i just copy the entire zipped folder onto it (in unzipped form)??

also how do i execute it in dos-mode, whats the command? Never used it haha!

The Abit website is in broken english, im not understanding it :(

Most motherboard manufacturers have their own GUI flash from the either the BIOS screen or even windows. It's been years since I flashed a BIOS from DOS.

If you do decide the old route, you need to create a bootable floppy disk or CD with the files unzipped. You then just run the Award Flash utility with the name of the .bin file.

awdflash xxx.bin

for AMI BIOSs :

amiflash xxx.rom

you might be able to flash the bios in windows i know asus have live update utils. also dont forget the thermal paste and to clean off the old stuff on the cooler, lemon juice is good if you dont have TIM cleaner.
