Not entirely happy with the performance in some games, mainly BF2 and CS: Source. Rig is in my sig, any suggestions?

There is no way your rig should suffer in anyway in those games

I have a single core opteron at 2.8ghz, 2 gigs of RAM and a X1800XT 512Mb with which I can run BF2 at 1280x1024 16x AF 6x AF and temporal antialising which no juddering at all.

You need to update your sig then! How is that X1800XT? I'm thinking of getting one for my conroe rig, i'll be gaming at the same resolution as you.

I'm just too lazy for that :D

The X1800XT is a beast, I've just got it sorted for some serious overclocking, I've never run it on air, but I've heard the stock cooler is pretty pants.

BF2 runs okay on 1152x864 on medium settings but any higher and it starts to get a bit jerky, especially when there is a lot of action on the screen.

Got CS:Source with just about everything on high on 1600x1200 but I am only getting about 50fps on average.

Somethings definately wrong then as your system should be flying on BF2 and Source. When was the last time you did a fresh install?

When I got the computer which was about 3 months ago.

And what kind of FPS should I be getting on CS:Source under that resolution? And should I be able to play BF2 on a much higher resolution?

Any other suggestions?

Give your system a thorough cleanup Windows wise.

AV
Adaware
ScanDisk
Disk Cleanup
Defrag
Services
Startup Programs

Or, just do a fresh install, uipdate ya drivers and install a game. Test it and see if your still having probs.
