Ok so I have started to notice my current rig has begun to struggle a little after the 6 years I have had it for. So I thought as I now have a full time job allowing me to save up to get a new one I might as well start having a look at what I can get to make my next rig only start showing its age another 6 years on. So here is my build as it stands:-

lol, no problem.
You get 8gb of ram free with the mobo, so you may want to lose the corsair stuff :)

May be a good idea to ask in the watercooling forum for advice on that side of things.

I was under the impression that Corsair did better ram, though saying that i have DDR2 Black Dragons in my current rig and I haven't had a problem with them.

The only really good reason I can see to spend £80 on that Platinum RAM would be for looks - especially if you're doing the WC thing as you are.

Otherwise, I'd be happy with the 1600mhz Geil stuff with the mobo.

If I was buying for outright performance (that I may never notice ;)) at a relatively respectable price, it'd be Samsung Green although it won't shine in the looks dept :) But then it's so lo-pro that people will ask where your ram is when you show your rig :p

Thanks for all the help. Can't wait to get the money together and build this monster.

Updated with 1200 w crazy priced PSU

Im sorry but whats the point of buying a 1200W PSU when it will be very inefficient

Also it will cover any upgrade or update I want to make for some time if not until the thing dies. Plus its about the same price as the 850w's I have been looking at.

Though quick question will a psu like the 1200w been full draw from the wall all the time or only when my rig is on load, as I can imagine that my power bills will be significantly less with an 850w then a 1200w if it will be on full draw 100% of the time.

You'll only be using the power required for whatever your PC is doing at the time.

A power supply only draws what it needs. But since most of the time the power you draw will be significantly less than than 1200W it will run inefficiently.

Right I get your point now. I suppose I'd be better off with an 850w or even possibly push for a 750w. Though I don't think that a 750w would leave me with a lot of headroom.

But since most of the time the power you draw will be significantly less than than 1200W it will run inefficiently.

With any sort of reasonable load it's as efficient as any other 80 PLUS Gold certified PSU.

At very low loads then it'll be less efficient but then that would apply to an 850W PSU as well.

Is there any way I can work out (with any degree of accuracy) a systems full load before I buy the parts?

Online PSU calculators aren't very accurate and generally just over state the required PSU needed, the only accurate way is to use a watt meter at the wall socket with the system attached and stress the PC with a suitable program that does both the CPU and GFX card.

Or you could look at something like this - http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-670-2-and-3way-sli-review/4 - and try to guess where you would be, but the tests system used by Guru3D is different.

I know that the test setup is different but it is running the older generation of i7's and if I'm correct ivy bridge generation run at a lot lower power draw. If I am wrong then please someone correct me.
