Anything to compare - Rover Coupe?

erm, MR2 turbo and 200SX Turbo being suggested as cheaper to insure than a Rover, lol...

Try a Prelude 2.2 VTEC, similar performance/size to the Coupe but cheaper to insure... i wanted a Coupe turbo after my Coupe 2.0 n/a but had the same problem hence buying the lude.

I found both to be cheaper to insure than the Rover - I went with the 200SX which would have been the same as renewing with my 216 Coupe!

2.2 Ludes are more tha Supra twin turbos to insure, there Hondas and Grp 18.

Cant see a Coupe turbo costing as much as a Prelude, let alone a 220 NA

It's insurance group 19! When your age is the same as your insurance group - it's going to cost big time!

Ahh, they joys of being 26 with full NCB. I pay £450. ;)

Anyhow its group 18, and there are different models available. A 20v non turbo is still a quick car and a lot friendlier on the insurance. Maintenance is the killer. Work on the car costs a packet. The parts aren't nessecarily that expensive, its just that most jobs require's a lot of things under the bonnet to be removed.

But if you have time to spare and can do the work yourself the Fiat club have a whole load of 'how to' guides to do basically anything on the car.

I thought the Preludes were group 17, like my R620Ti and 20 if it was imported (the prelude).

I'm pretty sure the coupe turbos are also group 17

A lot more things have an effect on insurance than the group. Price of spares is a big factor

Performance, theft attraction, security, safety, repair costs, parts availability, even the accident frequency of the model.

There we go then, hence why Rover's are so cheap :p

There'll be more stolen Rovers now than ever I'd have thought.

& your house will be spare part paradise.

I recommend you dont feed the dog anything except redbull - and leash him up outside. :D

On a 95 Rover 220 NA it's £1,611
On a 95 Honda Preluda 2.2 VTEC it's £1,617

Spot the difference

Are they the best prices from a few companies or just one?

Maybe the lack of Rover now means the prices have gone up but as far as im concerned a Prelude (and no doubt my teg) is more expensive to insure than any Rover ive ever had (at younger ages) and also more than quotes i had on a Supra Twin turbo.

I had a 220 NA coupe for almost 6 year (F reg astra 1.4 before)..loved the car..still love the look of them..It was a joy to drive..ok not the fastest thing on the road....parts where cheap to get hold off...never had any engine troubles...seat where really comfy..never driven a turbo version....I was paying about £400 fully comp (30 years old full no claims(protected).....but sold it last May....wanted something new and with a turbo..at the time I could not fine a coupe turbo so started looking at st24/st200 ended up buying a Impreza UK turbo 2000...which is in a different league of grin factor :D
