Anyway to convert 6/8Pin PCI-E to Molex?

Not sure where to post, so GD it is.

As above I need more Molex connections to power GPU's, yes molex to power GPUs.

Problem is I bought an EVGA 650W Gold PSU, it has split 12v rails. Using the molex connections on it simply doesn't provide enough amps to power 6x 750 Ti's on powered risers. (60w each) Most amps are reserved for the PCI-e connectors.

So what I need to do is convert the 4 x PCI-e power cables to molex if that is possible? anyone know of any adapters?

Second option is to return PSU and buy something like a seasonic 650w Gold which has a single 12V rail and should be able to power all off molex.

Also a bit worried about melting the molex connections since they are not made to power GPU's. They are only 60w cards, will it be OK?

buy PCI extension
No links please

cut off one end and replace with molex?

Maybe PSUs are different now but years ago all the connectors were fed off the same rails

You could always add a cheap PSU and link the grounds?

Good idea (better than voiding warranty and cutting PSU leads :) ), need find out what cables go into a molex and what are in a PCI-E

I think off the top of my head molex is, 2xG 1x5v & 1x12v

Not sure that PCI-E has 5V?

Edit: yea looks like 3 yellow wires all 12v and 3 grounds

No, you can't. The PCI-E lead has 12V wires only. Molex needs 5V and 3.3V. Converting 12V to 5V or 3.3V is difficult - it's what we buy power supplies for.

Buy a better power supply.

according to the wikipedia the riser might need to provide 75 W (3.3 V/3 A + 12 V/5.5 A)

which is ~10W from 3.3V and ~65W from the 12V

a pci-e 6pin is meant to provide 75W over 3 12V rails or 25W per wire

so i guess you could put together an adapter which would have a pass through molex and a pci-e 6 going into another molex. The pass through providing just the 5V and then have all 3 12V supplies from the pci-e going into the 12V molex rail. The riser likely converts the 5v to 3.3V.

I'm not sure I would be too happy putting this kind of monster adapter together though, it would only seem to provide enough power for 1 riser per pci-e connector too.
