hi

noticing my 5870 temps were a bit high at idle i noticed that the card was not downclocking itself much when not playing games. the memory clock stayed the same at 1200 mhz and the gpu clock only downclocks itself to 400 however upon disabling 1 of my monitors they immediatly downclock to 157 mhz and 300 mhz! reducing my idle temps to what they should be. is this a technical issue that cards have to have allot more power to run 2 screens even in 2d or will it be fixed by drivers?

thanks

ah yeah i just read someone said after they installed the dirt 2 hotfix the gpu clock started going down from 400 to 250 but the memory clock stayed the same at 1200 ill try that too see how much difference it makes. thanks

heh well i cant find the forum that said about dirt 2 hotfix reducing the clocks a bit now lol.

i just think its a bit odd why it needs so much more power when driving 2 screens when it downclocks to 157/300 on a single screen which is way lower. though i have heard of some issues, with tearing and driver stoped responding errors on this low power so maybe its best not to have it that low either way, just idle temps in the mid 50s with dual screens is a bit anoying!

idles are nothing mate dont worry :D Your room temperature could be high. If you are that worried mate, get setting your fan speed :D

My 5850 idles at 52 c but when I set fan speed to 40%, idles at low 40's.

recently had a 5870 running 3 monitors, had a weird green artifact problem, idling in windows or simple things like emails underclocked right down to about 160/300 just above room temp.

Had an xfx 5870 idling at 32c 21 % fan speed.
