Hi Guys,

I have a Abit A-N68SV motherboard and 5600 x2 cpu. The problem i have is when runnign my cpu underload (upscaling dvd's) the cpu is reaching silly high temperatures and shutting the system down.

Temps are mainly down to the case i use - http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u198/samsoom2002/IMAG0022-1.jpg

So to try and reduce temps, ive re applied fresh thermal compound and im currently underclocking the cpu down to 2.0ghz which seems to still perform well enough. Temps however are still high so it seems logical to reduce the cpus voltage and therefor heat. However my motherboard only allows me to increase the voltage typically lol

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Russ

Update - 2ghz wasnt powerfull enough and was resulting in jerky playback so now trying 2.2ghz. Im still sure the voltage could come down though if my mobo would allow as stock speed is 2.9ghz

using the latest BIOS?
what are you using for CPU cooling?
Sure that it's only the CPU? nVidia chipsets run very hot & I would imagine that in that case there is very little airflow hence a high internal temp.

Using Cool'n'Quiet?

Hi,

No, im not on the latest bios. Ive downloaded the file from Abits website, however the installer isnt available for download atm. very annoying.

The cooler is Hipers own low profile cooler which im pretty sure is the only cooler that can fit in the case.

I would agree that the internal temp is high. unfortunately im not sure what options are open to me other than running the hard drive externally.

Cool n quite is enabled yes :)
