Hi, gurus of wares that are soft. :)

My parents' old laptop finally died so I built them a PC for crimbo. The HDD seems OK as I have put it into a caddie and can access the files. Anyone know of a way I can retrieve the emails and address book from Outlook Express on that drive?

Thanks

Found this guide through Google, think it'll do the job :)

First open any Computer Window and click on Tools then Folder Options then View and add a mark beside Show Hidden Files Apply the change and OK then exit out of that setup procedure.

Open the Drive then go to Documents & Settings then open your account name and click on Application Data then Microsoft then you will see Address Book which will have all of your contacts in transfer this to a temp folder on the other drive and Import into your E-Mail Client.

For Stored E-Mail it is here Documents & Settings then Account Name then Local Settings then Application Data then Identifies then a long Alpha Numeric String followed by Microsoft and the Outlook or Outlook Express depending on which E-Mail client you are using. Again copy these to a temp folder and import them into your E-Mail client and you will have recovered all your data.

If it is the same as normal outlook, it should be in this folder: C:\Users\**user-name**\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
Edit: Too Late :P

%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{Identity-GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

Recently did this for my granddad, imported them into Live Mail in 7. Can't quite remember how though.

Did it all through google work though, sure you can manage

Didn't even consider that identities folder, cheers guys. You're all a bunch a legends. :)

Looking into it now.

Thanks for the help. Recovered them all last night.

They're gonna be well pleased when I rock up with them. :)
