I need to get a new monitor that goes with my 1080TI that I have bought. After looking at my budget and what I am after, I want to go for one of these two:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,503.18
(includes shipping: £13.20)

Besides the contrast ratio being much higher on the ASUS, I don't really see the difference or the need to pay £100 extra for the ASUS. Can anyone else help or maybe have any other monitors they can suggest?

but there is another option the dell s2716dg or the dell s2417dg sure they are tn but better build quality and once properly calibrated quick and very good. ips panela atm are an expensive lottery.

I've looked at this one and have definitely put some thought into it, however, people have told me IPS is better than TN although IPS have been having quite a lot of issues.

EDIT: I don't really know much about monitors so my knowledge is limited.

You can take the AOC. Yes, IPS is better than TN.

I would always go for an IPS panel over TN - not just for gaming, but for other work involving graphics. The image colour quality is just so much better imho.
I have gone from an old 24" DEL IPS 60hz panel to the AOC AG271QG you are considering and would throughly recomend it.

Dispite stories you hear, I found back light bleed is minimal and no dead pixels, so imo build quality is very good - fortunatly I purchased a while back and picked it up whilst it was still around £550.

Ips gives a much better image than TN.

However, they do have serious issues with glow and bleed when the screen is dark.

Just have to hope you get a good one....

I recently tried the AOC version and sent it back due to issues mentioned above. I think if you are prepared to go through a potentially long process to get a good one then go for it.

Personally i didnt like the matt finish they applied on the AOC as it made everything look grainy. Not sure what Acer use on theirs.

Which ever one you go for you need to keep it for as long as possible before deciding to send it back.
I bought the Asus about ten days ago and there was bleed in 3 of the corners, ten days later its almost all gone.

Regarding glow, if you like to play in the dark without any ambient lighting, you will not like any of the current crop of high Hz ips screens

I went from a Dell U2414H IPS to a Dell S2417DG TN , the image quality is close to the IPS out of the box , but with some adjustment it looks close to the IPS when viewed straight on. Of course on a TN the colours are off when looking on side on.

I can recommend the AOC. As mentioned previously, the panels are likely identical, so you're essentially paying for some (subjectively) nicer looks and the brandname with the Asus.

Whichever way you go, the IPS + 165Hz is a pleasure to use!

In my opinion, the talk of the "IPS Lottery" is overblown.

The 8bit TN panels are really not as bad as the 6bit ones used to be! (They were awwwful on the benq /asus 24" screens when compared to IPS or even most much older TN's, just soooo washed out). I just think IPS is a gamble that so many regret! The Dell 24" 165hz or dell 27" 144hz are both fantastic, but being more of a "serious" gamer, I ended up settling on a Benq 240hz 24.5" and absolutely do not regret it!! :)

Worth noting is that there is soon to be an lg 27" tn 240hz 1080p screen coming out! Sure, 1440p sounds really cool and everything, but not so much when you get 60fps(1440p) instead of 110fps (1080p) in games like playerunknown battlegrounds on a 1070 gtx...it is all trade offs one way or another! :D

(I have probably owned and sold or at least seen every type of gaming monitor that there is, including the IPS 165hz 27" panels (tried the acer pred variant at a friends house)
