Ok, bear with me here, Im tryign to sort out a friends PC and getting closer and closer each time, but Im still missing the target.

Ok, The Broadband is provided by AOL 9

Now, the thing is, that when we start up AOL, it tries to connect but simply wont.

The one and only way that we have managed to get it to connect to the internet, is will an external dialer ( The one built into Windows I mean ) and then we can startup AOL and its fine that way ( They need their EMails from AOL you see... Otherwise, I have set them up with the Windows Dialer & FireFox and its just fine. )

Now, earlier on, I saw an option to chose the dialer... the 2 options were "AOL" and "AOL DIALER" and I am sure that if I swapped them over, it should help, but where is that option?

Also there may also be an issue somewhere along the line, with the Ethernet, because they are using a BT Voyager 105 through USB and the AOL Dialup section of AOL checks for internet via TCP/IP and Im sure its trying to startup that USB Modem, but using TCP/IP before its managed any kind of connection at all, and therefore failing?

I dont like AOL, I dont understand why it does things the way it does them, so can anyone see what I am doing wrong and point me in the right directions?

Why not just set Outlook Express up for the e-mails if thats all they need, when i was on AOL its all i used, i never touched the software at all, i just made my own connection and used Outlook for my e-mails, could be worth setting up if thats the only way they can get a connection, without the software. :)

Outlook Express AOL E-mail set-up guide i just followed this simple guide.

There is no need for the AOL software at all, unless you want Live Help.

Theres also a guide in my old thread here of how to set the connection up so theres no need for the software, so follow that and set Outlook up = sorted. :D

Thanks guys...

Yes, cheap router was the first thing I told them to do... Explained how easy it is to do, and even how stupid it is to NOT do... ( Routers Firewall / AOL software etc etc etc ) but no!

They do not want to spend a single penny.

Im stuck it seems on being forced to use that stupid Voyager 105

Outlook express for Emails.

Again, this is how it is... I have had to setup OE with AOL before, I have seen that guide but many many thanks anyway... I will print it out this time and take it with me for them to see...

The thing is that they alos have the favourites and the EMail address book in AOL and so they dont want to change from using AOL the way they always have done!!!

I mean... Come on!
