AOL problems with new line

Hi

Ordered my mother AOL silver and we recieved the free Netgear modem/router last week and set about connecting the laptop up to the net. Well since last Friday we have had no success at all getting the broadband to work and secondly getting any decent support from AOL to be honest. I have plugged the Netgear into the master socket via the supplied filters and powered the router up but it will never sync to the line and the orange light flashes all the time and never goes solid. Yesterday I called at my mothers and tried my us robotics modem/router and filter and experienced the same outcome with the adsl light failing to lock onto the line. Today I spoke to AOL and they say that they need me to be at my mothers laptop/modem etc so they can talk me through the router config ?. Do you need to configure AOL via the Netgears menu's before it will sync the line ? I would have thought it would have been configured out of the box.

Any help would be appreciated because we are not making any progress after nearly a week.

Thanks

All you have to do is plug the router in, go to the config page, the http://192. jobbie and select yes for the automatic detect, and it does it, it sets itself up, then in about 5 seconds it asks for the AOL username/password, put em in save it, done.

Thats if your not using the software though, which i aint. :)

I can only assume that AOL have not activated the line yet, as the Orange flashing light doesn't sound right, unless it does do that till the routers set up, im not sure, anyway you could at least try the above method without the software , as that will definately tell you if AOL is on the line as the router will pick it up and set it up if its deffo there. :)

Hi

Just had a update from my mother and she says that the orange flashing light has now gone solid green !!. Sounds like we might be in buisness now with a bit of luck.
I will attempt to talk my mother through the setup process tonight so that could be the biggest task yet :D

Bummer just spoke to my mother and she says the Netgear is now back to flashing orange again
Maybe the line is very poor and can just about sync the line during the day but lose it at night time ?

Quick update

Tracked down the problem for the lack of line sync etc on my mothers broadband connection today. Turns out that the ring wire inside the phone socket was causing the problems and in a final attempt to get things working I removed the ring wire (no 3) and yes you guessed it the sync light went solid green within 5-6 seconds.
The connection was stable for the couple of hours I was there so touch wood we are sorted now :D

Thanks for the advice by the way.

Cheers
