Trying to get this up and running at a mates house..

Hes ran with the bt speedtouch modem for sometime but now a second puter has arrived for xmas..

The router is a netgear 834 wireless which aol does say it supports..

The problem is "chap authenticstion failed" Also it sa llc can come up but then says LLC down...

I rang AOL 5 times over this afternoon and each time got a different username and password and in the end was given Admin and password?? which i thought at 1st was the router login (which it was as it happens)

Any way i have now tried the old screen name and password and 4 other
variants including the @aol.com bit also..

AOL now say the router is faulty and cannot help anymore, so i brought it here to test and guess what.. im on it now :D

Also tried reseting the router and starting from scratch, the adsl light is on and connect shows in the router config..

Any help welcomed, also if someone could confirm the LLC and other router settings for aol i would be thankfull..

AOL SUCK

PS this router did not come from AOL... :p

Had a look at this?

"CHAP authentication failed" sounds like the username or password are wrong - it might be worth trying bt_test@startup_domain (no/any) password and see if that works.

Thanks, been through that but still no joy..

Im sure AOL have messed up on the password here somewhere along the line.

I will give the bt logins a try and see how that goes..

So i tried it with the bt test logins and it worked 1st time...

after over 3 hours on the phone to aol and five different username and passwords ive had enough..

So the options are

1 new isp

2 router off AOL

Thoughts?

does the modem still work?have you tried using it again instead of the router?
just athought,if it works at least you would defo know that the username and password were correct
