Hi all,

Any AOL users here as im thinking of migrating over to them from Tiscali, (was gona try Eclipse, but seen as they are throttling now, and i can't anyway as they say for Tiscali id have to cancel that, and go through the whole sign up with them thing, as they can't migrate Tiscali, so id be without internet for years) whats your thoughts, how do you find them, any trouble with p2p, that sort of thing, as they are about the only true Unlimited service out there.

Thanks. :)

Thanks.

Im not to bothered about pings as i don't game online now, i suppose anyones better than Tiscali, ive compared them with Eclipse and Tiscali, and they don't look to bad, not that far behind Eclipse, but they leave Tiscali for dead, as will probably everyone on there. :D

Keep em coming. :)

Rubbish. If you can migrate to AOL, you can migrate to the vast majority of BTw ADSL ISPs, including Eclipse.

Not according to the Eclipse website, about migration it says if your on Bulldog, Tiscali and a few others you can't migrate, you have to phone them up and cancel, then order Eclipse when the line is released, and what with the stories about ppl waiting for years for Tiscali to release their lines, and now with Eclipse throttling etc... im gona give em a miss.

Just tried yet again, GRAW demo by torrent to test, 5k or less, and an upload of 0.0k to 0.5k, yet i can browse lightning, and download from websites at over 100k, as when me torrent didn't work i set the 6.4's again to test, averaged 115k, speed checker says you can download at about 120k, can i **** you lying ********, the sooner i switch the better, you can't deny your throttling/shaping etc... anymore just tell the truth.

Oops should have been in me other thread, never mind. :p

Was just a pointer, if you were considering AOL since they were "the only option".

Yeah thanks. :)

Incidentally, now when i migrate, i wont be able to use my old e-mail address etc..., so what would i do about my registration on here, would i have to re-join and start again from scratch, or can i transfer the e-mail address to my new one which i would get, never migrated before so im clueless.

Thanks. :)

Just an update, ive finally got my MAC code from Tiscali, and so have ordered AOL's 1mb Silver, not really bothered about online gaming now as i aint played online games for months, i only played a bit of BF2 anyway, the main selling points were the no FUP, and being totally Unlimited, and theres no throttling/shaping going on, Tiscali rekon they are Unlimited, but they have started traffic shaping p2p so you can't get more than 5k a sec or less down, and thats in off peak hrs to, where they say in their FUP that using p2p in off peak hrs is fine by them, but at 5k or less you would'nt bother, which i dont now. :D

Thanks again for all the comments. :)

I spoke to a very nice Irish lass to when i phoned up. :p

bit of a thread hijack i was/am looking into migrating to Aol from Eclipse, have currently got eclipse max dsl @3.1 atm.BUT the AOL website says congratulations you can get aol @512.....WTF no way am i migrating under those conditions :(
anyone know if the website checker is faulty?
i mailed them and got the standard please call our highly trained (punjabi) helpline @£***** per minute :D no thank you

Yeah i got that to, its the checker as i put my dads phone number in and it said the same thing up to 512k, and hes already on their 1mb silver service. :D

I phoned up, and the lass asked what package i wanted, so i said the 1mb silver and she said my line was fine for that, and im probably already on 1mb anyway as thats the most my line can have, so i just said yeah ive already got 1mb. :)

Theres a guy been posting on the Tiscali forums about AOL, he said he migrated to them about 2 weeks ago, says they great, no FUP, no throttling/traffic shaping nowt, he's been downloading 24/7 at cracking speeds. :D

Many thanks for that Draeger, i should be switched to AOL in about 10 days or so, so i now know what to do so i don't need to use their software.

so all i have to do is, once im ready to go, and my modems turned up, instead of installing the software, i just install the modem, and make the connection myself using your guide.

EDIT: Ive already got my username/password as she gave me them over the phone, and said when i connect, ive to connect as an existing user, then use the username/password she gave me, now i know i should be able to change the password to something different, so will i need to install the software first so i can do that, or can i just use the password i was given, as that will be my account anyway as they set it all up as your migrating, and migrating is different to when you sign up without doing a migrate, if you know what i mean.

Thanks. :)

Overall, been pleased with them - and they're probably one of the only few ISP that stays true to their word for "Unlimited". P2P, internet, gaming ETC, totally unlimited.

Yeah thats what swung it for me, i would'nt have minded if Tiscali only did their shaping etc... in peak hrs, as there peak hrs are only 6pm to 11pm, and i don't download during them hrs anyway, but to do it in off peak hrs when they say you can use it as much as you like is bang out of order, they only let you get your unrestricted full speeds from about 1am till 8am, pathetic.
