Can anyone tell me is AOL a good isp?my cousin is on AOL 2mb and he says its unlimited has had no problems with it except he could not get his router to work with them.I asked a few people what they think of aol and people say stay clear?

Well I have been online for over 5 years and I haven't had any trouble with them.

I've not felt the need to change ISP's but the one thing I don't like is the AOL browser so I use Firefox instead :D

Id personally stay clear. They install lots of unuseful programs on your pc. they use their own software to connect to the net, and a lot of people have had problems using a router with aol.

There are far better deals out there..

the only big offputting thing is there yearly contract i dont like that idea
I don't like it either.

Around 5 months ago I asked to be downgraded to the Gold package (as my telephone line would only support a download speed of 1 Mb) as I was originally on the Platinum package (2 Mb) and unknown to me at the time was the fact that I had entered into another 12 month contract

Not a problem as I don't want to move anyway but a bit sneaky if you ask me

What I do like about AOL is their unlimited download claim, as in the years of using them I have never been restricted in any way.

AOL = FREE UPGRADE TO 10 MEG

I have AOL and do not use the software on my new machine ,

I got AOL in the summer of 05 and could not wait to get it loaded and ready to rock ...I set it all up and off i went ...within an hour my old machine was lagging and disconnecting all over the place .

I somehow ( i have no clue how ) managed to get it running smooth but it took about 2 days of messing around , I stuck with it and all was well after that .

Then just befor christmas i got a cristmas card from AOL saying we will be upgrading your 2 meg service to a 10 meg service FOR FREE ... I thoght " that will do for me " .

So last week i just built a brand new machine and thoght to myself " i wonder what would happen if i try and connect to the net without putting the crappy AOL software on ? "

It worked .... My connection is now super dupper ..so much so i connected up my wireless network to a USB adapter on my other pc in the other room and it connects at 54 mbps .

So multiplayer gaming in 2 rooms with pings of about 16 to 20 ms .

GET AOL...DON'T PUT SOFTWARE ON...GET FREE UPGRADE TO 10 MEG .

Assuming you can get 10 Meg, my line only supports 1 Mb
