What RAM do you have?
32GB G.SKILL Z5 Royal - F5-6000J2836G16GX2-TR5NS.
Yesterday, I did notice one of the lower clips for the slot had become unclipped from the DIMM slightly.
To remove doubt around my technique: I have installed terabytes memory in desktop and enterprise machines. I absolutely know how to install a DIMM. This keeps baffling me though. I'm beginning to think the memory slots are slightly defective.
