Hey all,

Now live and ready for pre-order exclusively with OCUK:

Sneak peak at Linus's intro and views:

Nvidia are sneaky calling their voltage restricted 1080 "MAX Q", makes it sound special, when in fact it is only marginally faster than a 1070 :p

Hi Atom, link doesn't work?

Hi Flashheart & Randall8686 - thanks for the heads up, and sorry we didn't notice this earlier...... cut and paste from another thread didn't work,,, OUR BAD for not checking....

Link Now fixed, but more importantly stock landed today.

Some pre-orders already shipped.

The reason its not a 17" model, is that its an AORUS X5 not X7 - and the concept around Max-Q is centred around smaller chassis being about to handle the higher GPUs. For AORUS we already have GTX1080 in our 17" chassis so the natural step is for this Max-Q version to sit within the 15".

Hope that clarifies.

Thanks,

Team AORUS

Please Atom80 can you have a word to someone about loosing the Aorus logo on the trackpad. It really detracts from the otherwise crisp look of the machine. I really don't understand why some fancy stickers (metalled or holographic for example) are not supplied for such customisation instead, would be cheaper for production, appeal to a greater audience and give the enthusiast an opportunity to still bling his laptop should he so desire. You could even backlight (switchable) the sticker recess, supplying both Aorus logo and blank fillers to allow full user customisation.

Any idea if I'd be able to remove, paint or mask it on this model somehow?

I would also be super interested if someone had a solution for this.

Hi Chaps,

This has been feedback to HQ, and although we are slightly offended, we are looking at some solution.

The design is actually more subtle than it looks on the pictures, but also understand that design elements like this are very subjective and down to personal taste.

We will update you once we have more details.

Regards,

Team AORUS

Atom80, no offense intended. I completely agree its subjective and as such please understand that therefore peoples point of view do indeed differ. I suspect you are trying to generate as many sales as you can, therefore such details should be considered - As it is now, the touchpad is steering me towards another brand, yet the X5 MD would get my money otherwise and it would appear that MrHumbility would also share similar views. I suspect we are not the only ones.

There are very view laptops available (if any) that offer top notch performance in a "stealth" shell and I know many people enjoy playing games when not at work but would prefer a modest looking machine within the workplace/whilst travelling. When Gigabyte started producing high performance machines, I was very excited as the chassis designs initially showed promise of being subtle yet immensely powerful.... then a massive logo is splashed on the touchpad. Again you are right, it is subjective but I would find it irksome seeing the logo between my hands as every time I sit down to use the machine. Look at the competition; Alienwares are bulky and have clear design clues oriented towards gamers. You cant escape Razer's logo on the lid of their machines, subtle it is not. MSI have design elements such as stripes, or red highlights all over their laptops, Asus ROG have, until the Zephyrus, also done the same (granted you get "REPUBLIC OF GAMERS" emblazoned on the bezel, but I feel I'd be able to hide that with a bezel surround mod of some sort - you cant do that on a touchpad)

You still have the Aorus logo on the lid and the Aorus text logo underneath the bezel, so other visitors or passers by will know what brand this fantastic machine is and the top end performance in renders/CAD etc will totally impress and perhaps push further sales. I have no doubt that should I get one, I will be singing it's praises to anyone I think would be interested.

Once again, it of course is not my intention to discredit the Aorus brand/logo/culture, far from it, I wish to support it because in all other ways I think your machines and brand are on the money (assuming distribution/supplier issues have been worked out). You appear to listen to your customers and I'm encouraged by most of what I've read with regard to warranty/customer support.

Go on, make me buy one, you know it makes sense!

Actually, I've just realised the touchpad logo appears to be different colours (orange or blue) in various reviews/pictures/videos i've seen online. Is it possible to change the colours? Is 'OFF' or 'Black' an option in the software somewhere?

it would appear that MrHumbility would also share similar views.
I would have preferred a simple black trackpad, but it didn't stop me from buying the x5 MD. I got it earlier this week and its great! It's hard to notice the trackpad because I cant stop looking at the 4k screen (first time I've had a 4k screen before, I can't get over how crisp everything is!) But the 'subtle' orange logo is definitely the first thing anyone who sees the laptop notices/ comments on - that is for sure haha.

The logo is not a light inside the trackpad that can be changed, I believe that some of the x5's just happen to have the blue trackpad (I assume leftovers from the v6's?) Aorus recently added this to the product pages for the v7's
*The color option of the AORUS trackpad logo may vary. Please contact the point of purchase or reseller for more information.

Thanks for the information. Great machine for you. Aside from the touchpad, hows the machine? Keyboard, Noise idle and under load, Heat, any Throttling etc? Battery life?

Hi, I purchased the X5 MD last weekend. It's a beast. Run's Witcher 3 maxed out including 4k.... Looks amazing. The battery life is poor. Lucky if you get 2hrs. The keyboard doesn't have much travel. Used to using mac keyboards which are awesome. It's taking some getting used to. It can get noisey but not as noisey as some gaming laptops i've seen on youtube.

I had terrible issues with the wireless card in it. My mac computer consistently gets about 30mb down from the internet. But this laptop over 2.4ghz gets max 3mbs! If you're in the same room as the router I get 20mbs which is pretty poor. However whilst at my folks house I tried 5ghz option their router which allowed me to use the internet to it's full capacity! As a result I've ordered a new router capable of 5ghz!

Now... i've a major issue. Just did a restart after installing some software and now the keyboard doesn't work at all!! This machine is the best part of 3k! This is pretty poor. The machine has amazing hardware and really great performance but it has some shocking quality issues with the basics!

Going to call up O/C tomorrow and get it sent back!

Hi mantisimo - can we ask what software was installed, and have you tried removing and rolling back to how the machine was when working fine?

Hi I managed to resolve the issue. I couldn't restore it because the keyboard was out. I couldn't physically log into windows and the F9 setup options stated there was a hardware connection error and I couldn't select the option to automatically resolve. It just kept prompting me with the same message. The software I installed was Wireshark.. I was following a tutorial to find out the password to my sky router so that I could replace it with a 5ghz router to address the wifi performance issues at 2.4ghz with the X5 MD. Once i'd installed wireshark with more or less all options set I could not longer use the keyboard after a restart. I was surprised. I couldn't even plug an external keyboard in. As I could get into the Bios I figured it was a software issue so I thought i'll try and restore the computer completely. I thought I'd be able to do this with the utility usb key provided. When booting it offers the option to boot to it, a 8gb drive, but when you select it it just loads windows as per usual.. I reset the boot order to load the usb drive but to no avail, it still didn't work.

I finally managed to resolve the (Keyboard) issue with a tutorial that said you could use the accessibility keyboard to login. I did this and restored my computer to the pre windows for creatives update that I'd done earlier in the week.

So I'm back in business, and I starting really like it! It's not perfect.... used to things just working coming from the Mac world! But you cant deny the performance/small form factor! It's pretty impressive! I'm still not sure why I couldn't restore the computer from the usb drive to access a partition to reset back to windows 10 Home?

Hi mantisimo - glad you are "starting" to like and enjoy the unit. We are asking HQ re the USB drive restore question, and hope to come back with "insight".

Hey JimboJet - we completely hear you, and agree, we should not have design elements that deter potential customers from buying our machines.

There is always "differences" of opinions, especially when design teams are based in Taiwan, and tastes differ, a lot,,,,,,,

There has been a couple of posts of the same ilk, maybe here and on other threads, and it has been feedback to HQ to offer a solution - we have asked for an update today to see the timescales - the request has gone to the creator of the AORUS brand,,,,,, so you can be assured "we" do listen and go to the top with "suggestions" that make sense, even if they do risk causing some "pain" to the people involved with the design.

HQ may come up with a couple of potential options for this, so if you are an "owner" when the ideas are in process, we could possibly put you in touch with R&D and get you involved with the decision making as to what works best.

We will post again when we hear anything back from the mothership :-)

Hi Jimbojet & mrhumbility - as mentioned, the trackpad is an etched design rather than a lighting effect, but IMO it isn't a "wild" as some think, and certainly looks more obvious on images than in reality - but again, this is my opinion, and they vary of course.

The Blue version was on previous generation you are correct, all the new V7 models are the orange/gold version.....

@mrhumbility = glad your machine arrived safely, and we are obviously delighted that you are enjoying the screen,,,,,, and hopefully the overall design and performance is ticking your boxes.
