I have an Aorus Z370 Gaming 5 motherboard and Intel 8700K MOBO. I had used the following guides to successfuly overclock the processor to 5Ghz:

https://view.joomag.com/z370-oc-guide/0865178001507187695?short

I recently (and maybe stupidly) upgraded the BIOS from version F7 to version F13.

All of the settings within the BIOS look the same, however with the same settings I can no longer achieve 5Ghz. Even upping the voltage from 1.3 which I was using to 1.35 it still isnt possible.

The MOBO does have a setting which allows some form of auto-overclock and it can achieve 5Ghz, however watching CPUID I see the volts jump as high as 1.45 which scares me a bit.

Has anybody experienced anything similar and can offer any suggestions?

Also if I wanted to be lazy, is it likely to be safe to leave it set to the auto overclock at 5Ghz with the occassional spike to 1.45, the computer is only on for a few hours at night and the game I play doesnt max the CPU out and temps dont seem to go over 80 at most.

Thanks

I see you’ve not received any replies, so I’ll see if I can’t help.

My first question is, if your CPU doesn’t hit 100% under your normal workload then could you back off the overclock to 4.9Ghz or even 4.8Ghz and still see the same real-world benefit? It might be the simplest and safest way forward.

If 5Ghz is important to you then you could flash to an older Bios and try to restore the previous settings.

Lastly - how does your RAM overclock compare between the two scenarios, is it the same?

I've had some weird issues with the bios on my z370 gaming 7 board, especially with the ram overclock. I got my ram from 3200 to 3866 rock stable, tried to push it more and it failed and switched to the 2nd bios, which was on F4. Updated to F13 and tried the same stable ram overclock settings and it no longer takes.

To be honest I think it will be my first and last purchase of a Gigabyte motherboard, my Asus board before this was much more predictable and a nicer bios in general.

Do you have a fixed voltage or using adaptive?
Whats the LLC set to?
Whats your uncore ratio and avx offset set to?

Also how have you found it unstable now? I've tested my system for hours on prime95, with and without avx and small fft and its rock stable. Yet soon as I load Ark or Atlas it dies within minutes.
