Aperture and exposure changes, both at once?

I'm speaking with the Ixus 60 in mind, but the question can apply for similar cameras...

Firstly, I'm a noob.
I read (somewhere, sometime) that on this type of camera you could alter the exposure and the aperture, but not both at the same time,is this true? I was standing next to the skating rink outside the Natural History Museum and was wondering how I could take a long exposure shot of the scene with all the floodlights present. Would I be able to with the Ixus 60/Fuji F30 type cameras?
Obviously, if you can alter them both then this is a pointless question. But you learn something new...

Many thanks ^_^

If you have a control dial on that one look for the letters S, A and M. Shutter, Aperture, Manual (Both at once).
My sister has a camera on which you have to set it to A, change the aperture, then M which locks the aperture and lets you change the shutter. If you go to S, the aperture will auto adjust.

It's a little wierd... do you have a manual? :P

I don't have the camera yet :p I'm tentative and have nearly been convinced by the Ixus 60, though I'm still looking at reviews.
/And where can I find out if a cam can take AEB shots?

On the dial 'A' is aperture priority, you set the aperture and the camera meters and sets the speed. When the dial is set to 'S' that's shutter priority where you set the speed and the camera sets the aperture. In 'M' mode you set both the speed and aperture. In 'P' (program] mode the camera sets both the speed and aperture. There are other modes available but 'A' 'S' 'M' and 'P' modes are the most usual although on the cheaper end of cameras 'P' or 'Auto' mode is the more common...

Just a bit of info although it's only slightly relevant to your question :D
