Recently got hold of a copy of their 'Drukqs' album which I'm actually impressed with.

A bit weird at first, but having never owned one of their albums before, I think that's to be expected.

Just wondering, what other tracks/albums should I try and get a listen too?

I'm especially fond of tracks like 'Vordhosbn'. I think it's really good. A nice blend of different instruments and interesting bass lines. Something which works well at any volume.

Dont know if it was him that made it or not, ive never seen it on any album, unless its on 26 mixes for cash.

It's a he, mate. Common mistake!!! :)

All his stuff's very good. The music video for Windowlicker is a must for pure entertainment.

There was a thread on here not so long ago about what tracks to look for- some corkers out there.

If you like him, you might like:

Boards of Canada
The Aloof
Autechre
DJ Shadow
Lindstrom
The Egg
Junkie XL

and, just for ha-ha's, here's the front cover of the single Windowlicker :D

As for individual tracks/albums- Selected Ambient Works and, my personal favourite track, Xtal.

Enjoy!
:)

I did do a bit of reading up after posting this thread, and did see that it was a single person. Oops, he's got some talent though!

Thanks for the track list, will definitely check those out.

ROFL @ that album cover though, that's quite disturbing

Yeah, he's done some corking stuff. Way ahead of his time too!

Had it as my desktop at work for a while! Always good for causing a stir!!! :p
Do a YouTube search for the Windowlicker vid. Can't post a direct link as the language on the "intro" is a tad choice, but it's worth it ;)

You should check out 'Selected Ambient Works 85-92' and 'Richard D. James Album'

Both solid albums.

'I Care Because You Do' is a good 'un too.

'Maximum Electronica' is a brilliant song too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it is used in Kevin & Perry Go Large, in a calm beach scene or similar.

Aphex twin, aphex twin, apheeeeeeeeex twin :)

To the non opened minded of us, you would listen to this and go, oh no - this is terrible and slightly depressing, but to the opened minded (and you yourself have to be a bit out of it too! :p) you will like all his stuff. Come to Daddy is one of my favs, although ive only listened to a few of his songs, should really get a few albums of his.

And yea, milkman is one youve got to listen to! It made me laugh the 1st time i listened to it lol

Also, i heard he makes all the sounds using stuff like washing machines and other random things like that - is that true? He of course takes the sounds and messes with them on his computer i should imagine.

not sure , like most producers hes kept it secret

his sounds that unique that as soon as he trys to release tracks under an alias you can instantly tell its him

I dunno about washing machines etc, but he doesn't use commercially available synths. As far as I know, he makes his own synthesizers using using circuit boards, and soldering various components together to his own "spec". Which is why you can instantly tell an Aphex Twin track - his sound is made using home made analogue synths.

I know where he lives as well, he has a tank in his front garden! :p

I whole heartedly recommend any of the Analords. Basicallly for the Analord series he never touched any computers and just used the extensive synth, drum machines, pattern machines etc. that he'd collected over the years. The Analord series was released over eleven 12"ep's, but you can pick-up a selection of the tracks on a CD called Chosen Lords.

I think its up there with his best work personally.
