Have to say, Manchester track/minipops (been waiting 4/5 years for it!, and never expected to hear a clean release) has me as hard as a diamond..... I am literally looking forward to the album.

OOOOOF

Dat Tuss funk.

Personally, I think his best album as a whole is Selected Ambient Works Volume II. The three-LP vinyl edition is arguably a great work of art.

It's considerably less up-tempo than a lot of his later stuff though - heck, there aren't even any drum beats on most of the tracks - so not one to recommend to Aphex newcomers. But it moves me more than anything else he's ever done.

I bought that, on brown vinyl, I think I've only listened to it twice though. When I first got into 'dance' music I went through a period of hoovering up as many genres as I could to see what I liked.

This may sound odd...

Seems the best place to ask about it though. I can't remember where I saw this, pretty sure it was Aphex Twin. When you put one of his songs through an audio analyser (I assume that's what it is), you see a demon headed dog in the graph..

edit!

That's from years ago when he was messing around with Metasynth, a Mac program for making music. It's supposed to be his face converted into sound or something. Metasynth is pretty cool.

Didn't see any follow up of Syro since it was released so posting here.

Finally got around to buying it from Bleep. It's my new fave release of his I think.

Edit: especially love the old skool vibe of s950tx16wasr10.

I'm still not convinced by Syro. It's got some good stuff on it, but some dross as well. (I much prefer his AFX stuff overall).

I did see him live in Barcelona, playing as Aphex Twin. Won't forget that in hurry!

Edit - Didn't see a thread on it, but You're Dead by Flying Lotus is definitely worth a listen if you're into this sort of thing. It's not quite LA but I reckon it's a strong album from him.
