Apophysis Freeware fractal flame editor

Anyone used this? Just stumbled upon it via DeviantArt and been having a quick play around with it, seems quite useful for a base to a wallpaper or something else.

My quick go (after doing some adjustments in PSP9):



Original (was a transparent png but that was 5mb):



I know its not much, but there are tonnes of different ways to produce a render and I will be having a more in depth go a bit later.

Also thankfully its multithreading friendly so I can finally put my dual core through its paces.

Sorry just noticed that both cores are used when rendering to disk. Only one used when rendering to screen. Ooops..


I've had this for a while (v2.02) and it doesn't use more than 1 core. After seeing your post I downloaded the v2.05 beta and it has a new option to set the number of threads. But... even when I set the number of threads to 2 or 4 it still uses a single core for me.

Are you getting both cores used ?

Hi,

yep, when I render to disk it uses both cores, if I choose to use just one then it (suprisingly ) takes twice as long, so I know it works.

How have you got on with the programme?

Im still experimenting with it as you can see, but I can see some interesting results once I get used to the way this thing works.

That looks pretty interesting, the 3d modelling could come in useful.

Is it fairly similar to Apophysis?

Same kinda results but chaosscope is easier to use from what I remember.

Thanks for that link Chaos. I wasn't aware of chaoscape until now and it renders some superb pictures. I'm fairly sure this one only uses 1 core ?

BruceLee - Apophysis is a program I downloaded a while ago, had a play with and then promptly forgot about, despite me thinking it was really rather good. Thanks for reminding me!

Going to give both apps a go tomorrow given the chance, after viewing some tutorials online etc it seems there is a lot more to the programmes than you first see.

Im the same with apps Phil, always think I will try them out and then promptly forget about them

I used to play around with a program like that. Its amazing to understand the maths behind it.
