appealing or repulsive?

It's the same axle AFAIK, just the axle tubes are a bit shorter so it's not going to weight much less. And the baby Atlas is usualy only used for non-arched cars IIRC.

yup.

arches mean a full-width atlas...

I'm in the mood for watching my british rallying dvd again...

"the diff's shot...has anyone seen a 3 litre capri?

...

excuse me, sir...can we borrow your axle to finish the rally?"

don't get me wrong, i'm not for one minute suggesting it's a lightweight component as it REALLY is not.
but the shorter axle tubes and halfshafts do reduce the weight by a noticeable amount.
AFAIK they ARE the same part only one has been shortened as the cheap way to get one is to cut down a regular Atlas.

Repulsive.

...but then again I find all old cars repulsive.

I expect when i'm 40 and the Nissan Skyline R34 is a 'classic' car i'll love it while a load of young whipper snappers will say it's repulsive :(

Take it up with Ford not me....the figure I quoted was taken from the Escort Rally Prep book published by Ford who quote GP1 engine spec, medium power or around 150BHP. :)

I love that book...got an original copy here but keep meaning to buy the reprint so i don't wear mine out anymore!.
:D

*EDIT*
Its where i also found mention of Capri RS3100 (remember those?) rear single leafs for the Mk1...got a set here off one of the last ten RS3100's off the production line.

au contraire my friend.
not the Tickford turbo Capri.

the 2.8 turbo is a different car. VERY rare.

Got a '73 Mex here in need of a new shell...my plan (if i ever get two pennies to rub together :() is to build it with a Group 4 spec (or higher) shell and a Cossie lump. Perhaps if i sell the wife, kids and one of my kidneys...
