Appealing university grades

I got my grades today, and I was 2.something percent away from a 2:1.

However they had calculated it wrong, and I am 1.1% away from a 2:1

Anyway to appeal this?

There were a lot of circumstances which went against me, and the university messed me around a fair bit on a number of things.

Yes, there will be; perhaps you should investigate your University regulations and find out who you need to speak to and what the procedure is? A meeting with your personal tutor (or whatever system your university has for regular contact) will probably be the first step.

Do you have reason to believe this hasn't already been considered by the exam board?

anything under a 2:1 is a fail in my book so get appealing.

a scraped 2:1 is hardly good tho, mine was the same :P

he is saying there might be a way to blag another % to >60%

Sorry to hear you didn't get what you were after, I think we were both going through revision hell at the same time in the This Instant & Moment thread!

You did say in another thread that you got the grade you deserved based on the work you put in.

However if you do want to appeal then check your university regulations, I'd certainly recommend speaking to your personal tutor and/or student services as you're unlikely to be the first student they've had in this position. If you've got any evidence that supports your claim about the university messing you around or extenuating circumstances then compile them as well as you can. There's no guarantee that a revision of your grade will occur but you've got a much better chance if you actually present some evidence rather than just pointing out that they've calculated it wrongly and you're slightly closer to a particular grade boundary than they've suggested.

Also you should usually declare any extenuating circumstances when they happen rather than when you don't get the grade you want.

1% can usually be given for free so i would appeal. What's the point in sticking you on a 2:2 when you are so darn close to a 2:1? Might as well give you the two one or at least have you revise an assignment to earn that extra 1%.

Dont think that grad schemes are the be all and end all...

Those I know on Grad schemes seem to be held on just above average pay on a lot of "promises", long hours etc whilst others who just got a job have bounced around a lot and are now on higher pay/freelance etc (5-6 years after graduation)

Depends massively on the scheme, certainly in the big oil/pharma companies it's a definite advantage.

Depends on the career path, some disciplines it can matter more to get a stronger company on your cv as a grad.

As others have pointed out, there will most definitely be University procedures in place to enable an appeal, so go ahead: what can you lose from it?
