Hi People,

been thinking,

is there any reason for the Apple screens to be so expensive, apart from the fact that they are apple? comparing it to a Dell they were pretty much the same last time i checked.

I've wondered that as well, especially since they apparantly use the same panels as the dells too, an LG one.

You do pay quite a bit for the branding, the design, whether that justifies the extra, thats up to you.

branding and design as well as Apple's apparent reluctancy to lower their prices. Dell have always been good in this regard which is why they are so popular :)

Is it true that the Dell has the more functional stand? That alone puts me into Dell's books. Apple *pfft*!!!

much more! pivot, rotate, tilt and height adjustments. Plus their screens typically have VGA, DVI, composite, component, S-Video, USB and speaker connections :)

I use the Apple at work, it's a nice monitor with a lovely quality feel, the fact I have to stack some books under it to adjust it's height somewhat spoils the aesthetics however.

Reading a review of the 24" apple it seems its actually not very good. As usual apple are going for style over substance. I dont know about the 20" one though.

The 24" does appear very grainy compared to the others in the range, it's definitely the weakest of the bunch.

We have the 20", 24" and 30" panels at work, the 20's are very nice to work on, we have about 40 of them in the studio and not a single one of them's suffered from stuck/dead pixels or backlight bleed. We have them calibrated with Colorvision spyder's, correct colour profiles etc and retouch imagery for print, mainly national press and magazine work, admittedly they're not Eizo quality and don't have all the bells and whistles that the Dell does, however, they're connected to Quad G5's using OSX Tiger and tend to be used purely as workstations so the extra connections aren't really used for anything anyway.

Compared to the nightmare I have had with my NEC 20WGX2, (one DOA, one with backlight bleed, trying to get the image quality right in XP etc), the apples been an absolute dream to setup and use, (which could be a lot to do with the OS) admittedly I've not tried gaming on it though.
