Apple 27" LED Cinema Display

It's US price is $999. Hopefully this will bring the u2711 down in price a little. It looks a bit sexy too :)

Hopefully!

I was giving the apple some serious thought there, until I seen the response time was 12ms, which I suspect, wouldn't be ideal for gaming - though I am somewhat ignorant of monitor technologies.

12ms is far quicker than your eye can see.
Most of this low ms lark is for marketing purposes only.

I am interested in a new monitor but I want LED and 24+ inches (current screen is 24 inch LCD).
I hope this screen will push the prices of others down a bit.

It is certainly true that in terms of the smoothness of motion, you have to consider a lot more than just the stated response time. It is incorrect to say that '12ms is far quicker than your eye can see' - it depends exactly what is being shown and in many cases, what the viewer is used to seeing. Personally I am very sensitive to response time issues - in as much as that I notice trailing on even the fastest LCD panels, whereas I don't on OLED panels. I don't let it bother me though - that's the main thing ;).

I can notice the difference between 6ms and 2ms. I think you got confused with contrast ratio, which with exaggerated figures is a marketing ploy.

This Apple monitor is more for quality then speed :)

Wow, you guys are all getting trapped into marketing BS. These figures don't tell you nothing really, there are no guidelines as to how to measure response time. Is it average for that matter? G2G? 12ms IRL is fairly quick, not many TN panels advertised as 2/5ms can do it easily. Read up the reviews and cut the crap out.

BTW, I'm not saying that the monitor will perform great in gaming but it may and we shall see when it comes out.

Yes its marginal but i can tell the difference in response time thats nothing to do with marketing. I can show you if you like running 2 monitors next to each other its plain to see. Contrast ratio is another matter. Well you are saying its great for gaming if response time dont matter.. make your mind up.

You didn't get my point, I'm just saying that what they market as 2ms response time is not 2ms response time IRL. There are no standards for measuring response times and nobody should eat the marketing crap we're being served.

ok whatever the dead accurate real figures are i still can notice the different between the faster monitor and slower monitor. If IPS and premium panels were that fast TNs wouldnt be the gaming monitor of choice.

Other options maybe?

Been looking at this monitor and realistically is going to cost in the region of around £800+,
If you are going to pay that sort of money wouldnt you be better off buying a high end Eizo or Nec ?
Yes I know that it would be a smaller display and visually (on the outside) not as good looking but once calibrated would be a far superior quality.
Regards
Bob

Whilst I can see your point, if there aren't any standards, then there's no reason why anyone shouldn't be able to just advertise as a 2ms all the time then, and not lose out to the "ignorant" market.

12ms is NOT fast enough that the eye can notice any difference, that part is a load of rubbish.

Unfortunately when we're buying online, we don't get the advantage of seeing two monitors next to each other and therefore base our decisions on other customer reviews who've taken the plunge.

Measuring response times in different ways and lying are not the same thing.
