Apple Certified Support Professional

50's worth.... oops typo lol

So about 25 of them? ;) You sound like you are in a similar situation to me. Central IT want nothing to do with our new facility (36 Mac Pros). So I will become the tech and admin for them all. How are you authenticating the users? Active Directory or Open directory? I would also look at getting Remote Desktop installed on an admin computer as it allows you to push updates and manage preference settings etc.

I would suggest doing the course and exam, and possibly the OSX Server essentials course and exam, as they teach you a lot about essential security settings and managing file privileges etc.

We have 3 OSX servers, currently looking into scripting account generations, we got them at educational discount (MASSIVE) so last count I think we had 25 Macbook Pros, 25 G5's & 25 Macbooks. I am still learning and nobody wants to take responsibility for them so decided I would aslong as I could have a free Macbook Pro.

Just to update this thread. I have now done;

ACSP
Final Cut 101
Final Cut 400
Color 101 (Just completed this yesterday. Some really nice results can be done through this software, but damn it has its quirks. Hope they integrate it better in the rewrite of Final Cut Studio).

Still have Motion 101 and DVD Studio Pro 101 to do (Next week and a in a few weeks) which will then make me a certified Final Cut Studio Master Professional. Worth it just for the title, lol.

Well done pal!

And all done!

Just got the email through from Apple: "Congratulations on earning your Final Cut Studio Master Pro certification!" :D

Last course was the motion one, which is a damn cool piece of software. Love some of the conditional behaviour stuff you can do. Just need some projects to find an excuse to use all the software now. :)

Feeling rather jealous here - I have a grand total of about 10 macs to look after (together with about 100 pc's) so doubt I can convince my boss I really need official mac training.

Shame the rumours are suggesting that there will be a completely new version of FCP soon. :P

(Mmmmm I smell thunderbolt).

They aren't just rumours. It is coming out pretty soon. It's hopefully going to be quite a change as it is a full 64bit rewrite. Also things like Color need to be much better integrated. Having said that, a lot of people will stick to using FCP 7 for a while yet, and I can update my qualifications easy enough with some short courses. The main thing was to make sure I did all my courses in the same version, otherwise I wouldn't have got the Master Pro certification without starting over again.

Is this a certainty? Have you seen it? I know it's been heavily rumoured / "People in the industry have seen it" but I'm pretty sure Apple products are never 100% until they are released?

This was going to be my next statement...

Do they offer an upgrade path for your qualifications or do you have to start again? It must be a pretty big kick in the balls that you goto all the effort of the qualifications only for them to release a pretty major revision not long after you have finished!

I have been dreaming up some pretty sweet things they could do with video editing and thunderbolt.
