Evening All..

As some of you know, I bought a macbook a couple of weeks back and besides some minor problems (mainly me being thick!) everything is now running perfectly!

I've sold my windows based machine to my dad and as a consequence, I'm looking to buy an apple cinema display.

With the HE discount i can get the 20" for £359ish (iirc) which isnt far off what I paid for my dell monitor!

My questions are as follows..

Would you recommend the 20" apple display? If not, any suggestions - bearing in mind the mini dvi output on the back...

Also, bearing in mind the macbook's native resolution is 1280*800 - will this look ok when scaled from 13.3" to 20" - or would spanning the display be a better option??

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

The display will look/work fine, although the displays aren't really that good. They look damn nice but the hardware is pretty poor.

You'd be better off with a Dell if you want good quality, but if you really like the look of the ACD then go for that. They are very overpriced monitors tbh.

Cheers for the quick reply!

I'll have a look at the dell! I've always had dell monitors - but when I got a new work laptop - i sold one of my dual 24" dells to fund my macbook purchase - and the second one went with the pc to my dad!

Maybe I should have kept them!

I do know the dell is fantastic.. maybe I'll go and see what I can get.. and swap it with my dad!

Anybody else have any experience with the cinema displays??

Theres no point mirroring the displays, spanning is a much better option and means you'll have a lovely expanded desktop to play with. I'm running an older 23" Cinema Display at 1920x1200, a resolution the Macbook handles very well on the external monitor.

I wouldn't bother buying an Apple screen though, they're a bit out of date and although new ones are overdue, they'll still be more expensive than a Samsung or Dell.

They're due for an upgrade, so wait until January (MacWorld Expo) if you can :)

Also, just to clarify, if you where to plug your macbook into a 20" monitor, the resolution would NOT be stretched from 1280x800 to fit the screen, the resolution would jump up to 1680x1050 (native res of a standard 20" tft iirc), so the screen would nto look stretched... Apple tft or another brand!

As I read it the OP was looking to mirror the displays, in this case the MacBook res of 1280x800 would be stretched to fit the 1680x1050 panel, and look pretty rubbish.
