Apple dock remote - What does the menu button for?

The remote is remarkably crap with my Touch, you basically have the option to play all the songs and change their volume, or not use it.

Yup, the remote fails at life with any iPod and a dock.

You should be able to control the whole iPod with the remote... A pipe dream I fear though.

You can't go into the menus with the Apple remote. It's only used for play, pause, forward and backwards when playing music.

Menu button is used with Front Row on Mac.

Pretty pointless for the iPod :(

That's what i fear, I thought it was broke or something. I wanted it to do the same function as the menu button on the ipod itself, not too much to ask is it?

It is annoying, especially when you have a dock & Mac in the same vacinity..

The amount of times I started browsing the iPod when I selected Front Row on the Mac

I used to have a Griffin one on my old 4th gen iPod a couple of years ago that allowed me to go into the menus etc, I don't know if they exist anymore though?

Try linking the remote to the Mac - might stop the dock triggering.

Trick the Tricksters

Do you have friends who have Apple Remotes? Do they think it’s funny to use them on your Mac when you're doing something? There's an easy way to fix that! Linking (or "pairing") your remote to your computer ensures that your remote is the only one that can be used with your Mac. Next time, the trick will be on them.

Simply hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons on your remote until a symbol on the screen indicates that you have linked your remote to your Mac.
