Wife has just come back from a trip to Dubai to stay with her sister for 8 days.
All her photos have been uploading to photostream so we can see them at home while she was there, but obviously her vids will have to be viewed on her IP5 when she returned.
On return we have now discovered that all the video recordings that have been made were recorded without sound, just white noise is heard.
Ive tested the camera and front facing records with sound but rear facing is total failure.
Ive spoken with Apple who dont seem to grasp how ****** off I am that she has travelled all that way and all her video recording more or less useless.

What do you think the chances are of getting some sort of goodwill gesture from apple, when I get it swapped over, because of this failure of there all singing all dancing IP5 ?

Replacement iPhone, sure. Goodwill/Compensation? Zero.

Didn't she watch back any of them before returning? would have surely detected the problem from the off then.

I thought Apple stuff just works? I kid, I kid.

Replacement yes, compensation no. If your anger is a measure of the importance of these videos then it would have been prudent to test and check that it was functioning correctly before the trip.

If the videos were so important then you would have checked that it all worked ok before taking all the video. Its a shame and most of use would be in the same situation but if I cared that much about taking video, I would make sure it was working.

They'll probably give you about £1.5m in compensation, when my iPhone 3G died and I lost a valuable text, as a good will gesture they gave me a top spec iMac, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro along with £500k in a briefcase, if they offer you anything less, tell them you'll see them in court.

Lol
How many of you make a test video before you start recording ?
For the record it worked 5 days before she went because we looked through the camera roll at videos that work prior to not working.

But I guess if she checked the camera just before she boarded the plane, along with her boarding card and passport and hand luggage she would have had prior warning and wouldn't of used the recorder on her iPhone.

Gotta go, must check the reverse lights working on my car before I reverse out the drive pfffft

Spoke to apple anyway, new phone when I take it in to shop, and I was told to try my luck and ask.

She didn't watch even one video back after recording it to see how it turned out?

Seems like user error to me.

You'll get a replacement phone, that's it (as it should be).

And yes, it is the drivers responsibility to ensure their car meets road-safety standards before setting off on a journey, it just so happens most people don't check anything ;)

She should have reviewed at least one video to be confident it was adequate.

+1 This hit the nail on the head

If I'm about to rely on the camera for a "once in a lifetime" holiday, then yes, I test the damn thing before I go. Not only that but with enough time in hand to get it repaired/replaced before my departure.

Not to not side with you but you'd at least watch one of them back to see how its come out. This could have just easily of happened with any other device capable of recording video.

Really sorry to hear this has happened.

I've never heard this before so its not like its a poor software update or a regular issue. You have just been very unfortunate. You'll get the phone replaced no issues but in terms of a good will gesture what are you expecting to make it alright? Another trip to Dubai?
