http://forums.macnn.com is another. It's not as active as macrumours, but seems to have less 'STFU N00B!!' idiots and has the hardware forums split down by type, which is useful.
Generally I prefer usenet to access technical forums. The fact that your average 16 yr old who needs to be spoonfed doesn't know about usenet/BBS is a plus, and the topics of most groups tend to be very specific (linux.samba for example). One I would recommend looking at for Mac users is uk.comp.sys.mac. Beware though, there are a few Usenet netiquette nazis in there
