Hi guys,
The past 24 hours have been hard on my iMac for some reason, starting with a failing IR receiver, the the screen flickering, and finally the power just cutting out to it randomly. Seems to come up again after a few tries but then will randomly power off again.

Now I've got 3 days left on the warranty on it luckily so I'm taking a trip to the Bristol store tomorrow. I was just wondering what the usual procedure is, how long they keep the machines for for testing etc. as it's my main machine.

Cheers

That sounds a bit odd. Power surge?

Had to take my MBP down to the genius bar a few days back as the ambient light sensor was kaput. Was quite worried myself about how long it'd take as I only have a 4 week gap in London before returning to Uni.

Anyway, took it in to get looked at. The guy diagnosed it straight away, ordered the parts and sent me home, with laptop, to await a phone call. The parts required would normally have been a next day delivery, but it being Christmas, I was advised to take the MBP home and wait for them to arrive in case it took a while. Once the parts were in, I returned and dropped off the MBP and was given an expected repair time of 7 to 10 working days. 5 days later, and I've just received a call telling me it's ready for collection.

So really, from drop-off to being ready to collect, it has taken 5 days, which I'm pretty pleased with I have to say. Of course, this will vary depending on which Mac Store you visit / how busy it is etc, but I shouldn't think it'd be too long.

Also, the warranty check is done on the first visit, so don't worry about it running out if you're waiting for parts :)
